I have a tikka battue lite in 308. She don't like the hornady precision hunter in 178gr. Someone have good load recipe for this gun or could tell me what ammo to try in mine ?

thank you.

Sam

The bautte my good friend was running seemed to like most 150gr choices. We were launching SST’s and the 150gr BTSP very well, right at about 2700fPS. Mostly Varget around here, 42.1-43.2 grains for those.

Those were loads that I had spun up for my Sako black bear, they were .4,.6 in that rifle and They hung in around .8-.9 for the Bautte rifle.

It shot the 150gr Nosler Ballistic tip well too. It was sitting at 1.1” @ 2650fps for good results.

Trying the 150FMJBT Hornady it was at 1.5” or so on both rifles. Roughly 2700fps there too.

Being the tikka was so close to the Sako, I’d venture to say the 150gr Federal blue box or non typical would have shot well in that tikka , as it is .5-.8 in my Sako.

They are 11-twist barrels, which should be alright for most projectiles in the 180gr class but the 178gr ELD-X is a long boy, might not be perfectly stable. I would look at 150-168gr ELD-type bullets or 180gr cup-and-core hunting bullets for that twist rate to find the sweet spot.

thank you, this will be a hunting rifle, and i can't find anything but a-max in the 168 range that seems interesting. the a-max is a target bullet so i think i'll have to load some 150 or find loaded ammo in 168. might try the barnes vort-x ammo. kind of pricey but available in the 168 in my local store.

i use a 150 swift scirroco. 2900 fps with reloader 15. shoots around 3/4 of an inch with some 1/2 inch 3 round groups thrown in. my battue prefers 150 grn but will shoot 165 grn.

I get good results & hunt with 150gr Barnes TTSX rounds. Also Hornady 150gr Spire point. My Battue has generally performed well with anything in the 150gr weight.
