Any one have a Tikka Battue particularly in 300 win mag?

I am curious what kind of velocity you would get with a short barreled 300 win like that.

After lugging my precision rifle through the bush I think i need a second lighter gun for the more nasty terrain (at least that is what I am telling the wife). This one looks like exactly what I am looking for.

Any feedback on the rifle would be helpful. I cant seem to find much on it when i do a search.

I love the Tikkas but I can't get past the look of the Battue. http://www.tikka.fi/ Its too "space gun" looking for me with the fiber-optic sights. A better way to go, in my opinion, is to order the iron sights on a blued Tikka (they are not available on the stainless versions). Much more traditional looking - this is my Tikka in 9.3x62:

Either way, you can't really go wrong as the Tikkas all seem to be good shooters. FYI - Epps has a couple of Battues listed on their web site.

My plan would be to scope it. I am not to keen on the fiber sights either. I was going to put a fixed 2.5X with a lot of eye relief.

Any thoughts on what velocity you would get with a 300 win mag and 20" barrel on those Tikkas?

I was thinking the same thing. I get 2858fps with a 220gr Partition out of a 24" barrel. I would guess a loss of ~150fps or so. But with magnum case capacity and slow burning powder, I wonder if it wouldn't be more. IIRC a fellow posted about a year ago regarding his Sako carbine in .338 WM, he was getting around 2500fps with a 250gr, which is a good 150-200fps loss, depending on the load.

150 to 200 fps loss would not be to bad. That would make it equal to a normal barreled 30-06 with a real short rifle. Thats what I am hoping for is full 30-06 or 308 type performance with a short barrel.
