I bought a new Tikka CTR and I can't seem to remove the bolt handle from the bolt. I have released the tension from the firing pin spring and the firing pin assembly is able to move up and down but I can't move the handle at all. I watched a few videos and it seems as if the handle should pop right out of the dovetail. Any tips?

As far I understand you have to remove the bolt to remove the firing pin assembly. There is a dovetail in the firing pin assembly that holds the bolt handle in place.

I've only done it a few times but I'm pretty sure you have to pull the firing pin back, rotate the pin assembly, and then you can pull the bolt handle.

You have to remove the bolt from the rifle.
Then you have to remove the firing pin assembly which is holding the bolt handle in place.

..and why do you want to do this?

I had a heck of a time with my CTR as well. All other Tikkas that i have done were dead easy, so i attributed it to the teflon coating on the bolt handle.

Remove the bolt from the rifle.
Remove bolt shroud.
With an allen key in place remove the spring tension so the firing pin freely jiggles around in the bolt body.
Using a brass punch and hammer gently tap out the bolt handle from the body.
Once out the firing pin just slides out.
There is a dovetail in both the bolt body and the firing pin assembly the is kept captive by the bolt handle.

PS. I definitely marked up my bolt handle getting it out. It was a real bugger.

One I had trouble with and the other made me question why the first was so difficult. Using an allen key maybe was the answer. That was recommended in a YouTube video.

Check your instruction booklet on bolt disassembly. You need to insert a 3mm dia wrench or screwdriver between the firing pin and bolt. DO NOT USE A HAMMER OR PUNCH!! The bolt handle will come out when you follow the directions.

I tried different sized allen keys and screw drivers with no success so I took it to a local gunsmith and he has removed it. I'll pick it up this week and ask him if he had any issues any difficulty I removing it or if it was just me.

To install a new bolt I have purchased.

Please post a picture when you can...

I remember now, remove shroud, then a small pin like a small Allan wrench needs to go between the firing pin and the cocking piece, so when rotated it takes on the spring tension allowing movement to free the bolt handle.

I got the bolt back and the gunsmith had to get it out with a whack from a mallet. He told me it was tight due to the finish on the CTR bolt. It's still takes more force to remove than in the videos I watched.
