I took my new Tikka 270 out today for the first time.
I was using Winchester Super X 270s 150g .
2 of the 10 shells would not chamber all the way and the bolt handle wouldn't go down. I tried several times but no go. I took the 2 shells and one at a time chambered my Rem 7600. One worked and fired and the other one l could not close the action. Anyone have these issues with this ammo ? Thanks for any input.

Were they all the same length? Only issue I have is with penetration on moose, CXP2. Never again, thats the only one available at the time. Deer ammo in an area with no deer, go figure.

Weird, when you pull the round out, is it showing marks from engaging the rifling? Look closely at the actual bullet. Grab a caliper and measure one that DOES go in and then measure a few that don't. Might be goofed up Over All Lengths.

If the ammo also had an issue on another rifle, it sounds like an ammo problem, not a Tikka problem. But it wouldn't hurt to take both ammo and rifle to a smith to measure the head spacing just to be sure.

Unless Sako's QC has really fallen off, it is far more likely that it is an ammunition issue. It is not uncommon of manufacturers to have bad runs. After the barrel fiasco that Sako went through, they're pretty much on top of their game in the quality department. Take some caliper measurements and compare to SAAMI dimensions. Not saying that firearm manufacturers don't have issues or are infallible but my first thought is the ammo. Also, if you do find out of spec measurements, as suggested contact the company and be prepared to provide the lot# along with the description and specific symbol i.e. 'X2704' or whatever is printed on your box of ammunition. This allows the company to investigate and narrow down potential issues and causes as well as helping to them to publize a safety recall if necessary.

Its an ammo problem. I had the same problem with 338 federal Tikka. The Tikka tolerances are very precise. Out of 5 boxes of federal fusion ammo 3-4 wouldn't chamber until I seated the bullet deeper.

it's an ammo problem for sure. either the base of the round is larger than what it should be (need resizing) OR AN aol problem, something i've seen more than once at the range i worked for.....

I went thought about 10 more tonight out of the same box and all went well so l don't know what is up with those 2.
l'm going to shoot them off an email and see if they might do something. I took a pic of the boxes lot number for there records.
We'll see what happens. I've never had a problem with this ammo before and this being a new gun l thought maybe it was the rifle.

It's likely the rifle, but not in a bad way.
It could be the first time you've had an issue with that type of ammo only because that Tikka has a closer spec chamber than your other rifles. The basic factory ammo offerings have a tendency to be more inconsistent with sizing.

I have a 30-06 M70 that consistently closes tight on Federal blue box 150gr ammo but 180gr is no problem.

In the late '90s, early 2000, my buddy often had problems chambering the .270 Win Winchester Fail Safe in his Tikka Hunter. The problem was the ammo.

If shooting factory ammo for any serious hunting, I use Norma or RWS, and have never had any problems. Unlike American brands, of which I have experienced wrinkled cases, misaligned bullets, over sized, and under sized, etc.

I doubt it is a firearm problem if 18 of the 20 will chamber. More likely an ammo issue. I have two Tikka rifles currently, and have had several others, and my shooting partner has four of them and they are all good shooters, as good as I have seen in a factory rifle.
