I’ve been thinking about a rifle to play around at longer ranges with. A Tikka CTR in 6.5 Creedmoor has made the shortlist of contenders and now I see that cabelas has a CTR special edition. Just wondering if anyone has handled or seen one in person and could offer some insight if it’s worth the extra $$$ over the regular CTR. Comes with a slightly different stock, a muzzle brake, and a set trigger.

Also considering a Bergara, but my last Tikka was a great rifle so leaning that way.

$200 dollar difference, if the stuff offered is what you want then its not bad. If you don't like set triggers then its not good. If you don't like that muzzle break then its not good.
If you plan on ever swapping stocks then its not good.

Honestly the set trigger is impressively good. However, if you actually know how to shoot you have no use for a set trigger. As for the muzzle break, I’ve had one on a TRG-22 and it was a very effective muzzle brake. To purchase it by itself from Stoeger is at least 200$ but then again is pretty much anything else such as the Cadex MX1, Heathen, VG6, etc.

Of the “extras” on this one I’m most interested in the set trigger. Both the CZs I’ve owned had set triggers which I liked, but not sure if it’s necessary. Guess I’m really wondering if the brake is decent, or if I’ll want to swap it anyway (I’ve never used a brake on a rifle before). Same with the stock. If it’s no better than the normal stock it seems pointless to buy the more expensive one. I’d like to put it in a chassis eventually anyway. Checking one out in person is a no go.

More I think about it, maybe I’m better off saving the $200 and putting it towards the glass I’ll need, or dies, brass, powder, and all the other fun stuff.

I have a normal CTR, and for $200 extra I think that set trigger and brake are worth it. You can't buy a half decent muzzle brake for under $100, and a trigger spring will only get down to 1lb pull.
I'm not a fan of buying rifles from Cabelas, but I think the value is there

I have the regular CTR with trigger adjusted As low as it goes and breaks at approx 2 1/4 lbs. Bit feels much lighter! Clean break that is absolutely excellent. I put a surefire brake on mine that I got from calgary shooting centre for 79 bucks. My rifle has very little recoil. I also got my rifle on a demo sale for 1149. I think Beretta is doing a sale right now.

I got one of these on sale a few years ago. Only thing imo that makes it worth it is the muzzle brake. Dropped a yo Dave spring in.

Set trigger alone is a $250 option and if not from factory you have to pay shipping both was to have it installed. Sako/tikka will not sell the trigger to you for self install

If it comes down to putting it in a chassis, then you shud likely get a TAC A 1 and be done with it. I've had set triggers on a few guns, not really worth it, nice, but, they can be pesky as well, still have one on a SxS rifle, only because that is the only way they build them. If you can't get happy with a Tikka two stage and a yo Dave spring, Triggertech is working on bringing out Tikka triggers, no doubt be able to get a single stage in those in the Diamond down the road.
