Tikka M07 in 12GA over 222

Anyone have one of these combo guns ??? Do they have decent accuracy ?? I was thinking it might make a good coyote gun for in the woods.

Yes, I have one, 12g / 222Rem. No fancy designs, just a very well made utilitarian combo gun, and my personal favorite. Tikka M07s were made in Finland starting in 1970, and later superseded by the hammerless M77.

M07 rifle barrel is very accurate, but you have to keep any crud off the rifle barrel collets to keep it like that. I like the single action design. It has adjustable trigger pull, and it can also be scoped (11mm rail.) It comes easily apart, and fits in a backpack. Grab a pocketful of 222 rounds, and some 12g buckshot and slugs, and you will be one truly prepared hiker... And yes, 222 will work for a coyote.

Negative sides? Well, just like with any combo, you have to make your first shot count. 222Rem is certainly available, but not very popular. The M07 muzzle brake directs the noise to the shooter. And you have to remember to pull back the hammer, and remember to select the correct barrel before firing...

Combos are not for everyone. However, if I was looking for one again, I'd buy another M07 in a heartbeat.

How well are the barrels regulated to each other?? I had read about some of those Savage combo guns that the shotgun pattern when shot was way off from where the rifle shot. Can the rifle barrel be adjusted??

Am tired and not making too much sense probably , but I mean if you were to shoot the shotgun at a target, and then shoot the rifle, would the bullet land somewhere in the middle shotgun pattern.

Chances are yes, but the Pattern of shot could be 30 inches at 30 yrds.

Mine shoots slugs dead on at 35 yrds but the 222 is 3 inches high at 35 and levels out at about 75 yards.

These are combo guns and arn't persision guns. All you can do is shoot and learn the gun.

You flip the rear sight up to shoot the rifle, and pop it down and sight along the rail to aim the shotgun. I actually can`t answer if the round and centre of the shot pattern were in the same spot, if aimed the same way...

Ok, I`m now curious - did you manage to buy one recently? There are very few floating around... people tend to keep them.

Tradeexcanada lists two different Tikkas as M07. One appears to be actually M66, an earlier version of the M07. Both are good models. I have no personal experience with Valmet combos, but the various Valmet O/U models manufactured over the years are still well regarded guns. Valmet made combos for Savage, and these were also, apparently, decent units.

Between the Tikkas and Valmet? Valmet has two triggers, which is a great feature on a combo. However, the Tikka (at least M07) has adjustable trigger pull. Also, I like the instant "safety on/off" feature of the hammer, but the hammer is somewhat in the way if you want to scope the gun.... So take your pick, they are both good guns with their own features.
