So back in 1980, the British SAS purchased six Tikka M55 Sniper rifles chambered in 22-250 and topped with Kahles ZF69 on three of them and AN-PVS4 night vision scopes on the other three. Each of the three snipers were issued one of each, one for the day and the other for the night. The choice of calibre was for the urban anti-terrorism role, as they figured the 22-250 had less chance to over penetrate and ricochet. By 1988 though the rifles were replaced by the H&K PSG-1 and were then sold to the Australian SAS. Eventually I believe five were offered to the public.
