I have a Tikka M695 .300 win mag (shared between me and my dad). I heard the newer T3 is not the same rifle. How true is this? If so why?

Teh 695 is a real gun, the T3 is a plastic gun. A good plastic gun but still plastic.

The 595/695 series are excellent rifles of a more standard weight than the T3.

Thanks for the heads up. I was seriously considering a new t3 in .270 win. I guess I will keep looking for an older rifle.

Good idea. I did and currently own an M695 in .338WM and an M65 in 30-06. I have no issues with the T3, but wouldn't consider one in anything other than a .223

Had a nice M695 in 300 mag, the stainless/grey Laminate one.

They Sadly do share all the same Plastic parts as the T3...mags,trigger guards and bolt shroud.

They are/were however superior in fit and finnish to the T3's.

Mine shot very well

I'd not be affraid of a T3. I have them along with LSA55 and M65s. They are all good guns. The real Tikkas are like all older guns. No comparison to new ones. But the T3s are nice for a new gun, built with new technology. Nothing to worry about with them. I don't see much difference really from the 58 series on. You can see the direction Sako was taking by looking at each succeeding series.

I have a M695 300WM and while boringly accurate they are every bit a plastic gun as the T3. Having said that I keep it around because it is so damn reliable/accurate and given the amount of abuse it takes on horseback hunts the plastic seems to be no more prone to failure then steel.

A person must move to either a Sako or Tikka M65 to get into all steel construction.
