Hey guys.

I recently got a gun from my grandfather. It is a brand new model 65 Tikka, with see through rings mounted that have " Australia " stamped on them. The stock almost looks like a tiger print natural stain, with red wood caps on various parts of the stock. Between the red wood and the normal wood is white plastic.

The gun has " Tikka Model 65 ". Serial number on the gun starts " 650-###xx " what can anyone tell me about this gun? Seems no one knows too much about this gun

Hey Weiss. Thank you for the information that is awesome. The caliber is 30 06. As for selling I'm sorry, I don't hunt much but I could never sell this rifle. Has too much personal value to me. Mine looks really old. It's not like my other rifles, marlin or winchester, this is heavy and has unbelievable wood to metal finish. It's very nice indeed, is there some data base I could check my serial # to date the rifle? Again thank you for the information

Photos are a wonderful idea.
I've got a M65 with a part fluted barrel.
Barrel sights with a red dot on the forward sight and hood with holes in the side.
The reason to allow light in to see the sight easier.
Detach magazine and groups to please.
Have considered selling it, but not sure why.
Don't use it much other than tossing lead at paper.

Great first "real" post and a super interesting rifle and story behind the rifle! Glad to have you here, sorry, I am clueless about Tikka.

Based on your description of the stock, you have the M65 Deluxe model. The Deluxe - as you already have guessed - is a bit prettier than the Standard model, but both share the same basic design. As Weiss noted already, you have a very nice example of quality workmanship from the late -70's or early -80's. Very nice gun, likely a great shooter. Do not lose the magazine, though... . Your rifle should have iron sights; If you plan to make use of the rifle, consider good quality detachable scope mounts. Send me a PM if you want more info.

See if your serial number extension falls within these years; Unfortunately there is a giant gap between years 1976-1985.
1969 — 20001
1970 — 20500
1971 — 22500
1972 — 26000
1973 — 28000
1974 — 30500
1975 — 32000
1976 — 36000
1985 — 77766

Finally, you likely have this already, but I'll post the link regardless: http://www.tikka.fi/sites/default/files/TikkaM65.pdf If you need to take the bolt apart to clean and lube it, don't mar the surface using regular handyman tools.

Keeping that rifle is a very wise decision aside from the sentimentality factor.
The quality of workmanship in the Tikka M55 and M65 series was superb and I speak from collecting them for several years.
Most are not light in weight, but if yours has been well looked after you will find it to be very accurate and very smooth functioning, a very dependable rifle..

Hey guys thank you so much, yes the rifle is in very good shape. And is the most accurate I have ever seen. Occasionally in a three shot group I can cover my shots at 100Y with a Canadian quarter, which for me is really good. I'm not a distance shooter because my hands are really shaky due to a few accidents so, distance is out of the question, I wouldn't feel comfortable taking game over 200Y. From your information my model is the 1985 version. Sadly it's not older... but just as nice!!

The 6.5X55 Tikka I had was accurate but heavy for the chambering.
I had a matching pair of carbines with partly fluted barrels, a 7 Rem. Mag and a 6.5X55 with consecutive serial numbers..

I just want to mention that Weiss - having declared himself as a potential buyer - ALSO provided the exact and fare price range that these rifles "change hands" at in my opinion!! I have been watching (and acquiring) these rifles periodically over the years and that squares exactly with my observations!
