so i have a T3 lite, in .338WM, its served its life well and its time to give it a new one, its gone from a sub MOA to well over 5MOA gun (its seeen ALOT of rounds for a WM) i love how smooth the action is so im thinking of re-barreling with a heavy taget barrel.

im still realitivly new to the precision sport in the scheme of things. so there is lots of calibers i dont know any thing about yet.. obvisouly i have a magnum bolt face, so other then the obvious choices .300wm, 338wm again, WSM, what options do i have with out having to get into changing bolt faces and such?

I suppose it depends a lot on what you plan on shooting with the rifle?

Paper or game, big hole or small?

I have 2 builds on the go at the moment because I can't seem to decide

mostly paper, hence the target barrel , hole size, meh what ever lol, im just not sure whats compatable with the magnum bolt face... this is my "cheap" build, aka barrel and ad a new stock

The project Is not worth pursuing unless you go with a magnum based cartridge. The cost of a standard faced bolt would cost more than the used price of a complete t3. Stocks inletted for the t3 are also not cheap. If you go magnum, my vote would be 300 throated for 230 vld's.

300 wsm....if you don't mind using a long action for a short action round.

7mm or 300WM are among the "cheap" belted magnum options... funny how a case that holds 70+ grains of powder and projectiles that run $0.50-1.50 each could be called "cheap".... (shakes head and walks away slowly)

The 338wm is a pretty moderate cartridge. Are you sure the bbl is toast? I'd give it 3k rounds before it opened up like that. Have you ever taken the copper out of the bore? Are you sure it's not your optics that have gone bad?

Oh I'm sure it's Te barrel! It's been cleaned and copper fouling out. And unless I'm loading 300gn boat tails I can't get any where near the lands the throat is right gone and since it's a light hunting barel I can't bump the chamber back. It's probably well over 3k rounds it's been in the bush quite a few times and seen alot of range time . The optics are on another rifle and work just fine
