Tikka t3 with leupold vxr 4-12x40. Theses are Talley lightweight 30mm diameter EXTRA LOW RINGS (.400” from reciever to scope tube). I didn’t take the pic on the best angle but there is still 1/4” between the barrel and a scope. I am swapping out to a vx5 3-15x44mm and the extra lows will still be perfect. Every gun shop says “medium rings with a 40mm scope” and everyone ends up with 1/2” of clearance and a stupid stock pad to get the correct cheek weld. The extra lows put the scope right where it needs to be. If I was sticking with the 40mm I’d probably machine some off the bases like I and others here have done in the past.

I have a set of 30mm medium rings with 50mm scope. Planning on buying the low rings. Still to high. But now does a guy buy the extra low.

Who else here owns dozens of rings. I spent more on rings looking for right height. Damn.

I had a shelf full in the safe at one time from constantly adjusting lower, and cleared a bunch out on the EE years ago, the same frustration that prompted this post.

I sent you a PM, but for 30mm extra lows are the ticket, but for 1" scopes lows are needed. All depending on scope length, actual objective diameter, eye relief etc.
