The rifle and scope have been ordered and all I need now is a mount, the optilocks are too rich for my blood but i've read great things about talley and Dednutz mounts... does anyone know which one is better? and does anyone know of a canadian dealer who sells them?

What did you get for your tikka3?

google or yahoo aren't of much help, they just point me to dealers south of the border

Standard Leupold bases and rings are a good option. Also, a rail with TPS rings is another good option.

What caliber gun?

I know the Optilocks are 'the best', but as you know, they are heavy and expensive and not REALLY necessary.

I used weaver style bases on mine, with Burris Signature rings (same idea as optilocks, with the poly insert.)

I used standard Leupold turn-in rings and bases on mine, then ended up drilling and tapping a couple more holes to move the bases forward so I didn't get clobbered. If I were doing it again I'd just go with a rail.

I have talley's on my tikka and no complaints at all. I would highly recommend, and you're right, the Optilocks are overpriced. You can get them at Wholesale Sports and Cabelas.

Leupold is on my T3 3006, no problems.
I would go to another mount if it was clearly better, extra $50.00 who cares.

Mounts that allowed a scope to shift and ruin a hunting season would be a real issue.

Do the talley or opti's claim to hold a scope in place better?

Here's a Canadian distributor list from www.talleyrings.com
Hope this helps.
Cheers

Thanks for the links zimbu, I placed an order for a set of talley lightweights but will probably have to redo it because of a little CC issue

do the talleys offer more scope mounting adjustment?

I have the leupolds on my T3.
With a small scope like a VX111 2.5 x 8 there is little forward back adjustment.

The ones I have look like the one pictured on the right, maybe not quite as high though. The ring is at the end of the base so, depending on which way you mount them, there are four possible configurations.

Warne makes a good mount as well, very well built, solid steel. Have a couple sets and am very satisified. Talley is nice because they are light and there is no issue with twisting or bending a scope tube which sometimes can happen with improperly lined up rings with the leupold turn in style mounts.
