I want to put a short rail for bipod. Initially, I got a rail that mounted to the sling stud. It was OK but, after I added the beavertail overlay, I didn't like the way it fit.
I've ordered a short rail with M-LOCK.
Should I drill through overlay and basic forearm and instal helicoils? Is there a relief on the inside of the forearm to simply use nuts?

Have you considered this? https://www.dominionoutdoors.ca/salmon-river-solutions-ez-pic.html

I have a pic/arca on my GRS stock (for my T1) and its rock solid using just the sling stud.

Area 419 makes this bipod rail. Solid design and integrated QD cup. Drilled out then filled stock with stainless hardware.
That's pretty much the end result I'm looking for. A short rail is on the way. At the moment, I'm planning to use swivel stud to screw down the rear of the rail, drill out the forearm and use an insert for the front rail screw. Should have 4 slots at the front available which should be plenty for the bipod.

For anybody interested;
Using 5slot picatinny rail, theoriginal sling stud was a bit too short. It was grabbing but, it was sitting in the rail so low that it became unusable as a sling stud. With a spacer, to make it usable, it wouldn't grrab the threaded insert in the forearm. No problem. It got replaced with a M5 screw. Than, I match drilled the forward mount screw for a helicoil. Naturally, I screw up and put in a M4 helicoil ony to realize that I didn’t have a proper M4 screw on hand... No problem, I thought, I put the project aside thinking that I finish it on Monday. Than... I got impatient. I removed the stock to find out that the forward hole was in a perfect void offering plenty of room to use another M5 screw and a simple nut on the inside. I removed the M4 helicoil and used M5 screw without drilling out clearance hole for it. Lo and behold, I didn't even need a nut! I'll add a nut if it ever straps but it tightened so nicely that I doubt I will ever need it!
Now, I have 3 slots avaliable for the tripod (perfect) and 1.5 slots for a thingy to attach a classic a classic 2 point qd sling...
