Hey all,

I have no idea what I'm doing, but what I do know is that I want the Tikka T1x in .22lr, likely the 16 inch variant.

I've never installed my own rings before, so I don't know what to even look for or how to even know if the rings will fit the Tikka T1x.. and same with a scope.

For a scope, I'll just be going to the range with this thing primarily. Shooting 50y and 100y so I don't need anything too crazy. Looking for a budget of maybe $400 for rings and a scope if possible. Maybe some kind of pic mount if it's better for some reason? I can also adjust my budget if that's going to be a few hundred shy of what I should be getting..

Any suggestions for rings & scope would be appreciated. What would you get on yours with a $500 budget?

EDIT: I've found this, would this.. fit? Should it be avoided? I dunno.. OR maybe the Bushnell 3-12 rimfire scope with some other rings?

For a scope to use at the range, I would suggest one with an adjustable objective (AO) or side focus so that when shooting at different distances the scope can be focused on the target. Furthermore, for use at the range get more magnification than 2-7, which, while great for hunting, is not necessarily the best choice for achieving the most accuracy potential. At the same time, don't compromise magnification at the expense of quality.

Some folks may recommend a weaver/picatinny style rail for weaver style rings. I don't know that there are any available for shipment to Canada yet. There is no reason that the dovetail grooves on the Tikka T1X cannot be used with dovetail rings. They will keep a scope in place and without issue. There are numerous rings from which to choose and they will be less costly than a rail and weaver ring combination. Among the brands from which to choose are Burris, BKL, Leupold, Sportsmatch, and Warne.

I'm going to take the Bushnell Legend UltraHD 4.5-14x44 and Burris 11mm dovetail rings off my CZ455 (in 17HMR) and put them on my T1x in 22LR.

The combo worked great on the CZ with both the 22LR and 17HMR barrels so I am expecting same on the T1x

FYI the Burris dovetail rings are 1"diam and 0.95" (High) #420076 - cheap and robust both for bench and bush

I don't think the scope I have is available now but I would agree that a side AO is very handy and you want more magnification than 2-7.

I have been looking for a rail for the T1x and options are Contessa (try and find one in Europe) DIP Inc (don't ship to Canada) or EGW (working on their rail once they get a gun in hand) as well as Murphy Precision (working on their version now - very pricey and don't know if they ship to Canada). You could get a T3 rail and drill new holes for the front part as well.

Also - if you are just taking it to the range I would suggest the 20" over the 16"

Kinney's sell dip rails & ship to Canada, they may be able to get a rail to you.

The DIP rails Kinney's has available do not yet include anything for the T1X. DIP has the 0 MOA now available and the 25 MOA available to pre-order and indicates that it will be ready for sale in mid-January. DIP will not ship to Canada.

I’d buy decent 11mm dovetail (rimfire) rings of no more than 0.40” in height bottom of base to the point the scope sits in (medium or low height) and use a 40mm or smaller objective. IMO 2-7x is perfect. Learn to shoot without over-magnifying and you’ll be better all around, plus cheap scopes do not do magnification well - clarity is more important than magnification. I have a 308 with a Leupold vx6 2-12 and I shoot just as well at 100m with 2x as I do 12x. At the range you’ll mostly shot 50m and play at 100 sometimes. Shooting small targets at 50 is more fun with a 22 IMO. For hunting you need very low magnification to pick up small animals.
Leupold makes nice rimfire scopes, I’ve heard bad things about Nikon. Rimfire scopes have the parallax set at 50-75m compared to most centerfire scopes being twice that so if you don’t get rimfire get something with an adjustable objective.

Pinged Kinney’s on Christmas Day and they got back 2 hours later.
None in stock
Yes they hope to have stock soon
No prices set yet
Will mail to Canada via the post office
Never expected a return ping on Christmas day

I would try to find one of the now discontinued Bushnell Legend Ultra HD in say 3-9x40, have 2 of them personally and they are better IMO than most of the other scopes in that price range. Side focus, and close focus is like 10 yards so pretty ideal for a .22 rifle. I put one on my Savage bolt gun, very happy with it.
