Tikka T3/3006 accuracy

I have a T3 Lite in .260 that does not exhibit wild fluctuations in accuracy based on cleaniness. YMMV. However, 6" @ 100 sounds a little much for ammo sensitivity. I agree with others, rings, bases, scope.

Both of my heavy barreled T-3 rifles would shoot sub1/2 moa with a clean barrel. A friends T-3 in 30-06 shoots well under moa with a clean barrel. Unless you are leaving residue in the barrel, it shouldn't shoot 6" groups just because the barrel is clean.

Do you think the flinch would affect the shot even with a Lead Sled?

Yes, you can flinch, even with a lead sled. I personally will not use a lead sled, as they cause more problems than they solve.

Guessing you are either at POCO or ABBY.

Did you get someone experience or ask the RO to shoot the rifle.

As others have said with no where to recoil a lead sled can be unpredictable. With proper sand bags a correct shot will have the rifle go up, then come back down so no windage change on target.

Cleaning was no issue on my Sako (same barrel as T3). First two shot were flyers, then back to .5-.7 groups.

Ok, so I took my Tikka to Scott at International shooting supplies last week. He said, all is good with my setup.
I went back to the range on Saturday and Sunday, did not use the lead sled. Also, switched to Remington Core Lock 150 gr.
Saturday I shot off the sand bags. Groups were will really bad at 100 yards.
Sunday I took my bipod off my Weatherby Vanguard S2 223, and put in on my Tikka. Weatherby shot great.
Tikka still not great but better than Saturday. One thing I did forget to try was to tap on the adjustments after making changes for elevation and windage.

I'm beginning to think this is just really bad technique. Breathing, trigger control etc. I will keep you posted on my progress. At 10,000 hours I should have it mastered

I have a photo of the target but can't attached on this forum.

Is the recoil lug missing?

I only ask because I forgot to put it back into my rifle when I took the stock off the first time. It was a good thing that I noticed the recoil lug sitting on the bench as I was putting the rifle away.

Checked all that, but thanks!

Zeiss replaced the scope. Apparently it was defective. Took 4 months to arrive, international
Shooting supplies generously loaned me a rifle for the hunting season. Who does that ? Very thankful.

As soon as I saw "Lead sled," the bells went off.
One would think a Zeiss scope cold take anything a 30-06 could throw at it, but are they stressed to take the reverse recoil that a lead sled delivers.
I've had a lead sled wreck a USA Redfield, a nearly new Bushnell 3200 for me and know of other people having the same trouble.
Take the scope off that rifle and put it on a known accurate rifle and test it on the bench.

I agree with lead sled. Conquest is long gone along with Tikka. Now have warranty Zeiss Terra with Weatherby 308, all is good.

^ What was it about the T3 that made you sell it after you got the scope back, and how do you like the weatherby (which model?) in comparison?

Prophet River loaned me a new $2000 rifle to use for the hunting season, when there was an issue with my first Cooper. That was the first time that I had ever done business with them, so it wasn't as though I was a regular customer at the time. However, it was a huge factor in me becoming a regular customer.
