On the way to my house from Epps.

Wanted one for a long time. A no non-sense carbine with sights in my second favourite calibre (and favourite easily attainable calibre)... 30-06. :)

Congrats on the new purchase! I have several Tikkas in various calibres but not in 30-06 or Battue Light. They have all worked well for me in the hottest summer days to the coldest winter ones. Enjoy your new rifle! :)

I really like the T3 action, and since it's a medium-long action, might as well have one chambered in a similar sized round.
I enjoy using sights, and find that I'm pretty good with them (diopter sights excluded :))

How is the rear sight attached? Is there a dovetail? Could you replace it with a regular folding leaf or something?

I sure like the looks of the Battue... short barrel and iron sights, what's not to like? I'd be included to do as recommended above and switch out the rear sight for a standard U-notch. I did a quick search and it looks like the base is screwed (one at front and one at rear). I suspect that the front screw hole could be used with the standard Tikka/Sako rear sight:

I was thrilled to find my rifle in the mail today, 2 days after ordering!

However, you can imagine my thrill turning to shock when I opened the box to find 3 deficiencies starring me in the face:

1. 2 rust spots along the receiver scope grooves. I wiped off the orange powdery residue, but there are two pitted rough spots that will definitely rust again.
2. A knick near the muzzle
3. the front sight ring was pushed half way off the front sight. I pushed it back in place, but it's definitely loose.

So... I called Epps... and they advised me to send it back in. Unfortunately, it's now a "warranty issue" with Stoeger Canada. Those of you that have dealt with Stoeger will know why I am f**king worried!

I handled the rifle for all of 5 minutes and it's a warranty issue.

Anyway, I scrambled to repackage it and bring it to the post office. I missed Friday final pick-up by a lousy 10 minutes... not my day today.

On a positive note, I like the look and feel of the rifle, and know it will serve my needs well.

:(

That really sucks with Epps. They should just send you another one and deal with Stoeger themselves.

You would think. However, I will try to keep positive and see what they will do. If it becomes a "warranty issue", I would rather just ask Epps to reblue the damn thing on my dime.

Does anybody know if Epps offers Cerakoting?

I don't think I have much bargaining leverage. My gun is in the mail, and they can tell me it's either a "warranty issue" or "f**k off". God, I hope this turns out positive. I just laid a thousand bones for this gun, and I would like a new one in new condition.

Why would you want to give them more business if they don't show you they are willing to step up for you in the first instance? In that case I'd just send it to Rick at ATR. Really though, you just unpacked a brand new rifle.

Yeah, I'm steaming. I couldn't believe their first response being that "unfortunately, it's a warranty issue"... fdfafdfjalkfjdaflkfjaklfjd

OK... I'm calming down and giving them a chance to step up to the plate. :)

Not good at all. I am with people who are suggesting Epps should replace it and deal with the warranty issue themselves. Why should you? How is rust on the barrel a warranty issue? It should not have gotten in the box and shipped to you in the first place. Epps better take care of this situation fast and make you happy or see another below to their online business reputation. I can see how an unopened box can be shipped unintentionally with defects, but their suggestion that this is a warranty issue really pisses me off. Please let us know what happens next.

Epps should in good customer respect find a perfect one off inventory and send it to you............SAP.
List this one on discount with items mentioned as deficient to 100%.
I'd be pizzed.
A g-note and oh well, tizz warruntie.........not.

Well, in fairness to Epps, they did say that "maybe Stoeger will advise them to send me a new one"... jeeeezus khrist... can't retailers function on the old ways of Customer Service? You know, where the customer is always right and should be treated with the utmost care. I even paid $60.40 to ship the damn thing back... I certainly hope they reimburse me on that. Anyway, let's all stay calm... and see where this goes. I'm hoping for a quick turn around and a new rifle. One thing I will not settle on is a "fixed" rifle, unless it is COMPLETELY and properly reblued. I know all too well what happens when a rifle begins to rust, it never ends.
