I recently purchesed a tikka t3 lite in 260 rem and would like to shoot some longer match grade bullets but the magazine that came with it has a spacer block that is not removeable built into it.this is limiting the o.a.l. . The clip is way longer than what it has to be and the hole in the bottom of the action is just as big.so in order to get the match grade bullets closer to the lands i was thinking about buying a 30-06 or 270 magazine . This would allow longer bullets to be shot repetitivly . What i need to know is the dimensions of one of these clips to make damn sure it will fit befor i buy one,and if anyone knows where the best place is to buy one?

Unless you are considering the rifle for a hunting application which, I don't think you are given the suggestion to use match grade bullets, why not just single-load rather than mess around with the Tikka's magazine.

You can modify the mags. Not easy, but many people have run into the issue you described. Myself included! There are numerous threads out there (different sites)...google it and you'll find them.

The other option is move to new bottom metal and AI mags. Pricey.

Just load the match bullets to max mag length. At this stage in the game the difference well likely be negligible.

Alternatively, there is only one size of 'bigger' mag for the T3, and if it won't fit the round, the round probably won't fit the rifle.

My shooting buddy has the same problem. One plus to the t3 is that they are all long actions. Simply get a 30-06 lengthy mag and modify or order a new bolt stop for a 30-06 length case. My shooting buddy hasn't done this to his rifle but I'm sure he will.

X2 both the bolt stop and mag would need to be changed, but I agree that the best route would be to single shot feed and seat the bullets into the rifling

I just modified/lengthened the mag of my .223 T3, it's the only option with the .223 mags. It's a simple modification which can be done with little more then hand tools and for less $ then the cost of cup of coffee. Certainly the easier route would be to buy a 30-06 length mag and a large action bolt stop, changing over is only a matter of pulling the stock off, removing the roll pin holding the bolt stop and installing the new bolt stop. However, the a new mag will cost +/-$75 and the new bolt stop will set you back another +$75 (comes in a kit).

Can you share your method? I've seen a couple on the web, but they are all pretty involved... wondering if your way is 'simpler'. :)

I'm almost ready to go the CDI bottom metal route with AI mags... 10 rounds instead of 6 would be pretty cool on the gopher fields, as well as the ability to launch some 80 grainers from the mag instead of single feed!

Magazine, not 'clip' .... for instance, an M1 Garand is clip fed. Not trolling...just helping out ;)

I think we all know what he is referring to, I was waiting for someone to make a comment. Its really not that big of a deal.

I pretty much copied the method outlined in the following article http://shootingshed.co.uk/wp/2012/06/tikka-t3-magazine-modification. The method in 24hrcampfire leaves the follower unsupported, a source of feeding issues in a magazine a friend modified.

Caution should be used when removing the bottom of the magazine with screw drivers as described in both articles. I cracked the side wall of a magazine trying the screw driver method. I found a better way is to lock the bottom of the magazine in a padded vise and pushing on the top of the magazine to pop one side of the magazine off the retention nubs.

Sounds to me like you haven't tried single-feeding a Tikka T3. The ejection port on my .223 T3 action is way too small to allow easily loading cartridges through it. Can't just drop them in because they can get stuck - there are no feed rails to keep the cartridge aligned with the chamber. Plus, I can hardly get a pinky finger in there to push the cartridge forward. A longer magazine is the way to go for max length cartridges.

There was a member who modified the T3 223 mag to take 75 & 80gr bullets. He did make a thread showing how to do it, I'll see if I can find it for ya.
