Tikka T3 - How to put on the swivels

I must be stupid or something, but I can't figure out how the swivels are supposed to go on. There must be some mechanism for getting the swivel open so that it can go through the swivel holder hole supplied on the T3 rifle. Any suggestions?

Pull on the knurled end.

Push on the small end and it will pop up a tad then pull on the bigger end all the way out. These don't screw in and out like the Uncle Mikes type.

My father had the same problem.
