...quite light in .338 Winchester Magnum.

I am just getting my "spare" ready for the Moose hunting season and thought I'd throw it on the kitchen scale.

Tikka claims 2.90kg on their web site, which is just over 6 lbs 6 oz.

I threw a Leupold compact 2.5x on the rifle, via Millet Angle-Lock rings and then weighed the whole setup on a kitchen scale: 6lbs 9 oz. (that is just over 6 1/2 lbs). Not too shabby; I guess Tikka is conservative with their weight estimates. It should be quite lively spitting out the 250gr Partitions, especially with that hockey puck for a recoil pad.:)

Unfortunately I didn't weigh the rings, scope and rifle on their own.

Has anyone else weighed their T3 Lites?

I actually had the T3 lite in .338 wm and I found it better to shoot (offhand) than my Ruger which is heavier. I don't know if the stock design is slightly better to direct recoil straight back or not, but I put a limbsaver on it (I'm not a total retard) and it was about equal to my Savage 116 weather warrior in .30-06 in the FELT recoil department.
I loaded up a bunch of 250 grainers last night, and I think one of my fillings is gonna come loose tonight at the range shooting my Ruger hawkeye. (I have never had a better shooting gun than the tikka, and it certainly was my smoothest cycling gun ever.
Good find, BUT GET THE LIMBSAVER. (they call it that for a reason.)
Oh yeah, mine weighed 7lbs 3 oz with a burris FF II 3-9, bases/rings, recoil pad, and kolpin gel sling, so YEAH, they are sure light.

I'm not sure why but Ruger's kick the crap out of me as well. I sighted in one for a friends son in 300 win mag with 180 gr Federal cheapies and after 5 shots my arm was numb and all bruised up. At the time I was shooting a Sako AV that was actually lighter in the same cartridge and could shoot 40-50 rounds in a day at the range no problem.

I have SgtRocks previous 338 and it is fine with the limbsaver but not a pussy cat. It is fine offhand but can be a bit much on the bench, especially developing 250 gr reloads.

The Millett rings that attach to the dovetail failed while I was developing 250gr loads. I would advise you get better bases and rings. I got Talley's for mine for around $50 from the USA. I bought leupold bases and rings but decided on the Talleys.

Funny you should note the Sako AV - I had one with the McMillan stock in .338 Win Mag and it was one of the sweetest shooting rifles I have ever owned. It was accurate and the felt recoil was mild - even with 275gr Speers. Those were great rifles.

It is my brother's rifle - but new - so it came with the rings in the case. I have to say that I was skeptical when I was mounting them. It just seems like a poor substitute for mounting bases the "regular" way. So I had my doubts, but now you've got me planning a trip to the sporting goods store!

Good move. Here's how mine ended up.

I have a custom LH Sako AV in .338 with a McMillan and a #4 Lilja barrel. It too seems like a pussy cat, compared to my previous .338's. Must be the stock design.

I agree with a previous poster about the Rugers- I think they have well designed stocks but have a very small butt end and create a lot of unnecessary pain due to the lack of surface area. I had a SS laminate in 25-06 that seemed similar to my .338 AV in the recoil dept. I also currently have a LH SS laminate Ruger in .375 Ruger but it has a larger butt on it and with the aftermarket slip-on is very 'reasonable' to shoot.

i also shoot a tikka T3 and with scope it under 7 lbs, like the others said before i installed a limbsaver on it and it is nice too shoot.

Ouch! Is the ring in the middle picture broken?

The 2 pics are of the same ring. It broke right at the bottom of the ring and put a nice gouge in the bottom of the Burris FF2 I had on there. The clips holding onto the dovetail were still on tight.

I didn't notice the damage until my groups raised 6 inches and went to crap.

Good God ! That's recoil I don't want !!! I have a Lite Stainless in .338 Federal and it is quite livelly off the bench , and it weighs the same as yours.

my previous (still in family) tikka t3 lite stainless in .270 went 7.04 lbs with talley's and leupy 3-9x33 ultralite with target elevation knob installed and butler creek flip caps...
