Tikka t3 lite vs t3x lite weight difference?

So I am wondering if anyone has actually weighed a t3 lite and a t3x lite to compare their weight? Google seems to suggest the t3x is heavier, but its hard to say by exactly how much. Does anyone know if most of that weight difference is in the stock, or do the changes to the action make a difference too? Long term plan would involve a new stock for it (wildcat perhaps?), but that'll be a ways off yet.

Anyone care to comment on the changes to the ejection port size? I've heard reports that the t3 ejection port has issues with long action cartridges - specifically that a loaded round might not eject depending on how long the bullet is..?

I'm looking to put together a lightweight rifle, and being a lefty my options are pretty limited so I've settled on wanting a Tikka t3/t3x lite in 270win (thats the caliber I shoot now, and I'm all set up to reload for it so it makes sense to stick to that caliber. Changing up the caliber would also necessitate a big expenditure on reloading gear/components and I'd rather not go down that road right this moment)

Thanks!

I have found the t3 and the t3x to be about the same weight. I currently have 2 superlites, which depending upon caliber are 1/4-1/3lb lighter than the lite. If you can find a superlight or a hunter fluted (same thing, just different stock), I highly recommend it. That 1/4lb feels very significant to me. Especially if you plan to put it into a quality light weight stock down the road. Both of mine are in Mcmillan hunters edge fill. If you drop another 1/4 to 1/2lb with a lighter stock, it makes the lite seem even more muzzle heavy, where the fluted balances out nicely.

i fixed a lot of t3 in my previous life (little issues not a gunsmith) and im a lefty as well.

the port of the t3x is larger and i will say they are the same weight roughly.

i do not measure my gear on a scale and not chasing grams that is maybe the reason but i took a t3x in 308win and it is light enough for me. not ultralight but light if it makes a difference for you.

Do you have any experience with long action cartridges? Any comment on whether ejecting loaded cartridges can be an issue? I'm sure a read that on here a while ago, looking for people to corroborate or refute it.

we had a few long actions t3. i do remember at least 3 6.5x55 and one in 270 never a problem for a least 3 of them one was never fired ... i did not kept them.

never heard for the t3 but i have heard and seen at the local range the sako 85 with what was called medium cartrdige so 270 and 30-06 mostly for the sako 85. and it was more after the shot.

now on eject a loaded cartridge on a tikka t3 or 3x i do not see a problem. and nver heard someone complained about it and trust me those guys will if any problem was met.

the t3x is even better as you can top load easier than on a t3.

I have a T3 in 7mm rem mag. Not the biggest cartridge you can get chambered in a T3 but damn near. Absolutely no problems with ejection of loaded or u loaded rounds. I remember a few years ago when the T3x line came out. The larger ejection port was supposed to be for ease of single loading their rifles at the bench. I don't remember hearing about ejection issues but maybe I just wasnt looking into it that much back then.

FWIW, I also have a T3x in 30-06 currently and have owned approximately 8 or 9 various T3/T3x models. You can barely notice the difference in ejection port size between the two.

The reports that you've read about ejecting live rounds, did the posters write if they were using reloads or not? And if so, were the bullets seated far out? Because there definitely is limited room in the magazine. When the mag's loaded and cartridges seated all the way to the rear, there isn't a lot of room leftover at the front of the mag for bullets to be seated to far out in the casings. Just food for thought.

Ok thanks guys. That's a relief then. I'm sure a read a thread about it being an issue(might not have even been a thread about it, but rather a post in a thread...), but maybe it was the loads and not the rifle that was really the issue here.

Damn I'm looking for a superlite in 308

In left handed or right? They don't exist in left from what I can tell by looking at the Tikka website. They do make the t3x Hunter Fluted and t3x Hunter stainless fluted in left, but only in certain calibers, not in 270. The hunter fluted stainless is available in 7x64 though, that would be a sweet one...
