im going up north in ontario next year to hunt moose, so im looking at buying a tikka t3 (in 30-06). im not sure what the temps are gonna be like but im told its rather cold that time of year, probably coldest of -20 C. a friend im going with has told me that the poly mags in the tikkas tend to crack in the cold. has anybody ever heard of this before?

does he only hunt with wood and metal? If he does then he really has no idea.

If he doesn't tell him his polymer stock will crack just the same as your mag in that temperature

I'm pretty sure we've all made errors in judgement or opinion about something to do with firearms before (well, except for a select few know-it-alls on CGN ^^^).

Does that make us all clueless idiots?

Tell your buddy that Tikka poly mags work fine in cold temps. Teach him rather than mock him.

Fill a mag with ammo, put in in the freezer overnight, and drop in on concrete in front of your buddy. Just be sure to place bets before hand, so you can buy a couple new mags to replace the one you just scuffed up.

Unless you plan on a late November, early December moose hunt our weather is generally above or slightly below freezing around the opener of moose season. We've had 70' F weather for the first 2 weeks which makes for interesting times.
You can bring a Tikka, we won't judge you.:p

Does your friend own several Tikkas with cracked mags? can he relate multiple anecdotes about tikka magazines failing due to the cold while he was personally there? maybe he does/can.

If not, don't just let people make stuff up and try to tell it to you as truth, when you know they don't know what they are talking about. It degrades us all.

my tikka mag typically stays in my truck all of hunting season. i live in edmonton and hunt from september1-march sometime. I've never had any issues with it. coldest temp I've hunted in with it is -43.
