I recently noticed a problem with my T3 that just started happening this year. After each shot I put threw the gun, I cannot open the bolt to eject the spent casing. I have to literally ram the bolt back down then up before it will let the bolt open. This only happens AFTER I shoot. The bolt works like butter before the shot.

I have about 250 rounds threw this gun with majority of it with Hornday 55g V-max. Never had a handload in it, The chamber is clean and brass doesn't have any marks on it after ejected besides some black carbon on the very tip that I don't notice with my other guns. Never had a problem in years past, Could my bolt be the problem?

Gun still shoots very accurate, Takes about 3 tries to open the bolt EVERY shot. I have had this happen 10 times now since it started happening. I can't find anything wrong with it, What could it be???

P.S This is a .22-250 if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance.

Try something other than Hornady ammo, they have turned out some high pressure stuff in the last year or so in assorted calibers.
Thems the hazards of running a factory 24-7-365.

If its Hornady Superformance ammo then it would not surprise me that it was the culprit. There have been some lots that are very hot in some guns. Try a different brand altogether. Otherwise as previously mentioned it could be the cocking cam on your bolt that has started to gall.

Id say high pressure, then try what Republic of Alberta says. If neither are the issue, clean your bore really good, check the bolt face for any markings, and see if the magazine is sitting in properly. Other then that I dont know what else to tell you

Gun does not do it when dry fired.

I have cleaned everything the best I could. Nothing really came out when cleaning either.

Yes they are new Hornady ammunation and did not do it with my older stuff. I will try some different brands and see if that helps. I know when i took the first shot out of my gun this year it was shooting 1" higher than it did last year. Maybe it is hotter ammunition?

Just a pure guess - but based on what you have said, yes, try some ammo that it liked before to see if at least those work. It may be an ammo issue.

Then you can try different ammo if you so wish.....

Given that information, the ammunition does appear to be the issue.

I had a very similar experience to the OP concerning Hornady factory ammo although in a different rifle, different chambering.
After firing I had to tap the bolt open with every shot and a couple fired cases actually had blown primers.
Rather than risk firing more than five rounds I took the ammo home and pulled the bullets, the powder was so compressed that I had to use a dental pick to start it flowing so I could dump the cases.
No problem after reloading...
