I noticed that all of Tikka T3 rifles in 223Rem have the same twist rate of 8".
Are they specifically designed to shoot heavy 70+ grain bullets?
Also, is it stil ok to shoot regular 55 gr bullets out of those?
I've read that with a fast twist light and fast bullets may disintegrate in mid-air without reaching the target. Are there some considerations to make when buying/reloading ammo for the T3 in particular or any other 8" twist rifle in general.

I haven't been able to find any info on the twist rate in this forum, so please excuse a noob trying to buy a first varmint gun.
Eventually I would like to get into target shooting beyond 300 yards in addition to sub-300 varming hunting, so I want to pick a rifle/load combo for the future.

Thanks

A 1:8 twist will handle up to 80 Grain bullets. You can still shoot 55 gr bullets out of it but you will be fighting a lot more wind. The 75-80's will work out to 1000 yards, the 55 gr won't.
Most 22-250's use 55 grain bullets, due to slow twist barrels. A .223 with 55 gr bullets will not be as fast as the 22-250 with the same bullet, so you should not have problems with the bullets disintergrating before they reach the target.

The Tikka T3 will work just fine for what you are planning to do with it. Join the ORA or at least go to an Introductory Day and see what it will do at longer ranges :D

Last weekend I was watching a newbie shoot a T3 223 at 500m, and I was quite impressed how well it shot, and with factory (although he did have pro coaching). I may even buy one to play with myself and make stocks for them. I think these are a smoking deal compared to rem.
