Hello, I purchased a Tikka T3 HB SS varmint rifle about 2 months ago, however upon looking at the barrel a few nights ago, I noticed that there is some rust beginning, is this normal for this gun being so new?, this is a range gun and has never seen the outdoors yet, and it is stored in a low humidity area, I was going to put some gun oil on the barrel but was wondering if I should treat the rust first.

I'm not sure if that is totally correct. Most rust that occurs on stainless is from contamination from steel. So during the manufacturing process if the stainless steel came into contact with steel dust or touched steel it can and usually will rust in those spots.

Good reminder to always wipe down rifles before putting them away to be on the safe side.. Hopefully it is just surface rust. x4 on the G96 does a great job (RCMP use this)... and also REM oil, whatever you have at hand. If it's new, and it isn't surface rust, take it back, get a blued barrel.
I've found that for bolt actions only using the G96 tends to leave it slicker. If you add Rem oil the bolt doesn't slide as well. I suspect this is due to close tolerences. However with semi autos they seem to like the G96 then some Rem oil. Probably due to looser tolerances.
On a side note G96 has held up on my work pistol at -50 celcius. Action still cycled when I tested it out.
I use it more as a metal conditioner rather than a cleaner.
