Hello, do I need to buy the Optilock bases? I have a 1 inch tube scope and am hoping to get by with a regular dovetail weaver rings like I use on my rimfire (only weaver size). The Optilock system is pricey.

I would like to use the scope I've got for now and upgrade to something top notch later on.

There are other options other than the Optilocks.... Talley seems to be popular. The receiver is drilled and tapped so you have more than a few choices.

you could go with Leupold ringmounts or the Cheapo Millet rings which dont' seem very popular with people who have used them.....I had them on an old Tikka and they worked.

Cant remember if the T3 is drilled and tapped...if so you could put on some burris bases and use whatever rings you want. That's what I did for my LSA-65 since I didnt' like the ringmounts or optilocks.

Leupold makes bases for the Tikka. They are the kind where you have a dovetail drop in on the front, and two screws on the rear. Works fine on my 308.

Me personally I have the Optilock rings and bases on all my Sako m75 and Tikka T3 rifles - buts thats me. Never had any issues, never lost a zero setting.

Only rifle that doesnt has the new style Optilock ringmounts on a Sako m75 Greywolf.

I went with Leupold Rings and Bases. The Optilocks are nice, but overpriced and overbuilt (ie: HEAVY) for lighter calibres.

If you want a rail, EGW makes a 0 MOA and 20 MOA. Couple that with some TPS rings, and you're laughin!

Weaver style bases, Burris Sig. zee rings. Works great for me. The only thing I would change, is for Burris to make the Sig. rings in the "low" variety.

/\ I guess I'll have to see the rifle in my hands to figure it out. I thought that the receiver was grooved to accept the rings directly.

Its grooved to accept rings, but not Weaver rings. Its also drilled and tapped on top, and that's how the Leupold bases are mounted, as well it would appear the Weaver bases. I guess the Optilock bases use the grooves on the receiver, and I believe there is a ring as well that will directly on those grooves.

I used a Ken Farrell picatinny rail and Burris Signature Zee rings on my T3 HB Varmint. Rock Solid!! However it would oprobably be about the same price as the OptiLocks.

Weaver bases and the Burris rings would be a low dollar solid setup.
