I bought this older T3 a few years ago new. Cheap ammo seems to fire fine but Hornady and some others seem to have a 50% failure rate. The pin is putting a good dent into the primer. I've read that too much grease on the pin can do this but I've had it apart and that's not an issue. Just curious if there's been others with the same issue. TIA.
Cheers.

Usually it is the other way around- cheap ammo results in FTF and decent ammo doesn't.
I have no idea what the issue might be except maybe a head space problem, but without looking at the rifle and ammo , I really can't say for certain.

If there is nothing wrong with the firing pin - tip, protrusion, breakage. Then alternate the ammo that does go bang and that which doesn't to ensure there is nothing hanging up the movement of the firing pin.

If all of this checks out, the ammo headspace that doesn't go bang is too short vs your chamber

If you are using a screw on rail or bases, the screw over the locking lug recess may be touching the lug and preventing the bolt from going fully into battery.

I had this issue with my T3 223 using cheap ammo. Brass surplus stuff I stopped using after about 20 rounds. Inaccurate, unreliable, and even had a primer blow out in my face.

The fix was switching ammo. Federal always goes bang for me.
