Looking for some opinions. I want to buy myself a new toy to do some long range target shooting and do some coyote hunting. I have decided on a 223 and wondering what you think about these 2 rifles. weight is not an issue. I am aware of Tikkas built quality, however have read some negative comments regarting the stock. I do like the idea of the HS stock on the savage, but I have never fired a savage or even know any one who owns one. In the end i am looking for a quality rifle that i can squeeze out as much accuracy as a factory rifle can.

Head to the gun shop and handle them both side by side. It will be easy to decide for yourself. Ask this question on a board like this and you will get all answers. I like tikka and have two of them, including the varmint 223. If you do go tikka get the varmint instead of the super varmint. Extra 600 bucks and you dont get much for the. For that 600 bucks you can get a nicer stock.

I like the Tikka for big game hunting and walking but I love my Savage for varmint and target, the accutrigger takes a little getting used to but I now love it...I got a Model 10FP in .223 it will shoot in .5@200y with hand loads. Best accuracy out of a factory rifle that I ever got.You get a lot for your money and if you chose to upgrade their are aftermarket parts for it.

Go with the Savage you wont regret it.

I would take a Tikka Varmint hands down over the Savage. I actually just went through the same choice myself and went with the Tikka. The other gun I would look at if I was to do it again would be the Sub-MOA Weatherby heavy barrels. They seem smooth like the Tikka and carry the same <1MOA promise.

If you are Coyote and Groundhog hunting and NOT going to go shoot 200 PD's in an afternoon, I'd seriously consider a rifle with a sporter barrel.

Tikka! or, if you prefer the HS Precision stocks, have a look at the CZ 527 in .223 Kevlar stock.

I have both the Tikka and the CZ, both shoot crazy good out of the box.

If you are wealthy, you can get an aftermarket stock for the Tikka as well....

I think its just personal preferance and what fits you the best. I don't have a Tikka but i do have a LRPV in 223, it shoots unbelivable for a factory gun. I havent even beded it yet and it has really impressed me. The target accu trigger is really nice as well too, I have mine set at about 1.5 lbs and they say you can go as low as 6 ounces.

I've had Tikka and Savage and would recommend fondling them both to help you decide. Any mods down the road would favor the Savage.

My brand loyalty favours Tikka. I have never owned one that did not shoot sub half minute and their actions are very VERY nice.

I happen to like the stocks. Once bedded, they are terrific. The magazines are polymer but they feed like a dream. I dislike their price though!

On the Savage side, I really dislike "accutriggers" as flimsy and cheap, but that is only my opinion and remember what you paid for it.

Reality is, the Savage probably shoots just as well. Choose whatever appeals to your Mojo.
