I had the opportunity to try out a Tikka T3 Tactical in .308 Cal at our local range here in Lower Mainland BC.

I took various ammo to see how it will fare in comparison with Hornady Match ammo in 165 & 168 grain. The ammuniton I brought over was:
: American Eagle 150 GR FMJ
: MFS 145 GR FMJ
: Nosler Custom Trophy Grade 165 GR Accubond
: Hornady Superformance 165 GR SST
: Hornady Match 168 GR BTHP

I first zeroed the rifle @ 100 meters with Hornady Supeformance 165 GR SST & got these three group shots as shown on the pic below.

I then zeroed the rifle with Hornady Match 168 GR BTHP & tried the various ammo I mentioned above on the 100 meter target & got the groupings shown in the pic below. Note that you will see additional punch holes on the top righ target in addition to the original 3 group shots. That was the Hornady Match 168 GR shots. ( By the way, all the scattered shots you see on the black target below the bullseye is a result of AR 15 shots made from standing position).
The one on the top right is the Hornady Superformance 165 GR SST (apparently it shoots about 2 inches low in comparison to the 168 GR Match BTHP. Right underneath it on the same target is American Eagle 140 GR FMJ groups.
On the bottom right target, I shot a group of Nosler Custom Trophy Grade 165 GR Accubond.
On the bottom left target, I shot a group of MFS 145 GR which seem scattered.

I finally shot 5 rapid shot groups of Hornday Match 168 GR BTHP on 4 targets @ 100 meters as shown below.
I am not much of a shooter, but I would say I am pretty happy with the outcome. I intend to do follow up pics in the near future of shots taken on longer ranges.

By the way, this was the rifle responsible for the results shown above. In case you are wondering about the scope, it's a scope I took off my other Tikka Rifle; Millett TRS-1.

Very nice shooting, and good to know how well it shoots with Hornady 165 SST, as I have a few boxes to cycle through my T3 Sporter, as well as 155 SST.

Thanks for the comment. However, the compliment should be directed primarily to the rifle than the shooter. I am sure you do enjoy your T3 Sporter which happens to be a great rifle. Apparently, at the range, right next to my bench, there was another member shooting a Tikka T3 sporter in 260 caliber. Unlike me, he had a high end Nightforce NXS scope. I asked if I could check out the scope & was very impressed with the clarity of the glass.

Try some Federal Gold Medal match ammo.

FYI, I have owned to of these and with properly tuned loads, they shot as well as a custom. The disappointment though is that like ALL factory rifles, the throats are long; it meant that the best accuracy was with cartridges loaded so the bullets were much longer than the magazine. Very nice rifle.... you WILL enjoy it!

Hi todosan,
I want to thank you for the report, I traded up to the same rifle ( from another CGN member) back in Sept.
I have not found time to get to the range and see what my new tik tac can do.
If I get even close the the results you get I will be ecstatic .

HI Scott,

The scope in question is a Millett TRS-1. 4-16X50. Although, I found the scope to be heavy, the mid range price & the clarity of the glass was the catch.
This scope according to Optics Planet, a well known US based outdoor sportitng goods store, is one of the most popular scopes in it's class. for more details on the scope, I have attached a link from Optics Planet with description & customers review.

What optic do you have mounted on that rifle?

Hey Slowpoke 55,

thx on ur reply & the beautiful photo with very nice background. great looking rifle set up. By the way, what sort of scope have you mounted on yours? As for the rifle's performance, trust me when I say the rifle will impress the heck out of you as it did to me.
You most likely will get a tighter group shot than mine if you take your time & shoot the right ammo.

According to reviews I have read prior to getting this rifle, it seems to like best a 170 GR ammo if you can find one. I haven't shot this ammo yet, but I do look forward to experimenting a bit more. I will also get the "Federal Gold Medal Match" ammo recommended by Paperslayer on this forum. (Thx Paperslayer for your suggestion).

Thankf for the reply. Nice rifle pic & stock setup. It sure looks great. Is that a suppressor you have on?
Tikka rifles are one of the best toys you can get for the price.

One of the ironies re gun control is that in some countries that have stricter controls on personal ownership and use of firearms, the use of suppressors is allowed or an actual requirement whereas here, in Canada, they are prohibited items. Go figure - get headache - stop trying to figure :)
