Tikka T3 Tactical .308 Win V.S Rem 700p .308

Only gripe I have with a Tikka is the plastic bolt shroud... other then that, I was happy with mine.

I have a 700p and my brother the tikka tac. Both are used for hunting and competition guns.

I know it gets said alot but, It really is a matter of personal preference.

Between the two I prefer my 700p.

The biggest thing I don't like about the Tikka is the stock. It feels plasticy compared to the remmy and I can't get used to the adjustable cheek piece, especially in a snap shooting hunting situation.

I think muzzle brakes, which I don't think is required on a .308 anyway, are obnoxious especially when standing beside it. Also becomes a bit of a snag fest / dirt collector when going through the bush. I know, you could use it without, but then why would you get it if you aren't going to use it. There are better paperweights in the world.

I've found aftermarket parts unavailable and pricey - extra mag was over $100.

Of course, If you asked my brother, these would all be things he would count as positives in the Tikka's favour.

I will give it credit for a much smoother action and drop magazine (excluding cost of mags).

Performance wise, there won't be much of a difference IMO. So snuggle them both up and pick the one that feels best.

Tikka is my preference. But get them both in your hands at the same time and see which feels better. I like the tikka but they are harder to get parts for if you want to upgrade.

Well from what I have seen, they both shoot pretty darn good.... Different loads close to the same group sizes, I can shoot100y 4 inch groups at will with either rifle, on any given day on any range.

If you want a gun that I guarantee will shoot well out of the box: Tikka

If you want a gun to convert into a top performer with match grade components: Remington.

Just for the record, and not to dispute the above posters, my 700p shot fine out of the box. .675 with 175 smks all day.

Here's what my factory copper peeling 700 barrel will do.

& I'm not a big 700 guy either. :D

One thing I've noticed is how everyone on forums praises the accuracy of the Tikka. Yet, on every review site the Remingtons show a tendency for .5 moa out of the box, and the Tikka's are generally just over .5 moa.

The only Tikka I'm interested in is the Master Sporter in .308. I like the TRG style wood stock. I hate the plastic/polymer stock.

I've handled both - all I can say is that the 700P has a way better (feeling) stock, whereas the Tikka had an insanely smooth action (700 was very sticky - seemed like it needed mucho lube).

Tactical this and tactical that....I have an old Remington 600 in .308 that will shoot as good or better than any Tikka I've owned.
If you want cheap overpriced plastic stocks with mags that restrict overall length, then buy a Tikka.
If you want accuracy and lots of after market goodies, buy Remington.
