Good Morning all
I was looking at buying a Tikka T3 Tactical. I was wondering if anyone had one and If you do how you like it. I wanted to get it in .308. Any suggestions?

Never had one, prolly never will

unless you getting a really good deal on one

I think they are overpriced
for the money you will spend to buy and gunsmith to prep it, you can have a custom rig :dancingbanana:

Agreed... They seem really expensive for what you get.

I was looking at getting one but realized with glass and other bits and pieces that I need, I could get a Savage for about half.

Just a thought.

Pfft! I own a tictac in 308 and its a dream. The action is smooth like glass, the rifle is light and balanced, handling like a dream, the trigger is easy to adjust. The stock is perfect, and the bolt handle is just right. Out of the box these are ready to go.

And mine shoots sub moa with everything from federal gold medal to cheapo federal bluebox. And I have witnesses!

My friends also have an LTR and a 10FP and they also shoot very well, but only with certain types of ammo.

If you want my advice regarding your purchase... I would say that if you can afford it and you are not looking to pimp a gun out, buy the tikka and never look back.

If you want to do alot of mods get a remington. There are so many aftermarket parts for those you would need 20 rifles to try them all.

Savages have few aftermarket parts available for them, and they are quite heavy. But they are insanely accurate. Get one if you mean business but are on a budget.

Just my $0.02

I really like the look of the Tactical and the couple extra options it has compared to the Varment. like the weaver rail on the top and the adjustable cheekrest and the option to install a muzzle break without any mods. I have heard from a friend that the action is really smooth and going to Lebarons and playing with the T3 Lite that they have in the showroom I really liked it. Anyone else have one or have any other things to say about it.

I did pick up a T3 Varmint last week in .223, indeed very smooth action and well balanced. Too bad for the shortage of cheap ammo in GTA.

btw. Lebaron's Mississauga location has a T3 Varmint in 22-250 on special for $859 or so.

Have the T3 Tactical in 308. Love the gun. Rail is weak and not canted (no biggie but a pain). It's also a real bugger to get off. Muzzle brake is nice.
If I had to do it again I'd buy a Varmint in 6.5 x 55, have the barrel threaded for a brake (not that its needed) and get a farrel base.

Better deal in my opinion with a "better" long-range caliber.

The TikTac replaced the Master Sporter. I'm on a limited budget but still wanted a factory ajustable cheek rest etc so I waited and found a minty used Master Sporter. You can't go wrong with either rifle. Some guys love Savage or Remington but for me it's Tikka.

I love mine, and it's one of the few rifles I have never considered trading for something else... for whaterver reason, it just suits me. Go with what fits and suits YOU.

....and by the way, FYI it is a Picatinny rail, not a Weaver.

I guess to say somthing is overpriced is a relative term. I dont think the Tic Tac is the best value for your money, but mines will shoot no worse than 3/4MOA with all loads I've tried. I have done very little load development and yet it shoots A-Max , SMKs in 155gr, 168gr in 3/4 all day long

Think you are hard pressed to get this accuracy for $1500 . lots of people blab about custom guns etc but by the time you get a Rem 700 all tuned up etc with a good gunsmith you are way past 1500. Quite frankly , i have 2 rem 700 and i wouldnt waste my money getting gunsmith work done on them.

If you want a true custom rig , get a Sturgeon, PGW , Nesika action. By the time you are done you will be waaaay over $1500 and you would be hard pressed to beat the accuracy of a Tic TAc

My Sako TRG-42 doesnt shoot much better than this Tic Tac, which was less than half the cost

The Tik Tac has a great trigger as far as factory triggers go ( and they are easily adjustable ) . The stock is a bit flimsy but for what I use it for it doesnt matter. I guess lots of internet snipers would frown up on the flimsy stock ( no aluminum bedding block ) but the fact that it has an adjustable cheekpiece beats out the factory rems. Bottom line is it does the job. I see lots of guys with "sniper rigs" that spend $1000 on their stocks ( McMillan A5s , AICS ) , use the factory Rem Barrel and top it off with a $500 scope . I guess some people have different priorites when it comes to whats important in a rifle. I tend to want rifles that shoot accurately . Others want all the cool accessories ( I save that for my ARs...just cant help myself ! )

Dont forget if you get a Rem you still need a decent base ( $200 ) . The only problem with the Tic Tacs picatinny rail is that its flat. Having said that if you are not shooting to 1000yrds so what . If you are still geeked to dial to 1000 then by a scope like a Nightforce , or the Leupold fixed power Mark 4s should get you out there without a tapered base

Here is a pic of mine . I guess some will say my S&B PMII is "over priced" . Anyone who owns a PMII would call them expensive but worth the money

The TikTac is an excellent rifle right out of the box, in fact I would argue it is one of the most accurate factory rifles out there. I have owned them and I thought their results were superb. The actions are the smoothest I have ever used. My big regret is never having one in 6.5X55

bear in mind a couple of things:

1) You are stuck with the Tikka stock. The recoil lug is actually in the stock, not on the juction between barrel and action. This makes after market stocks non-existent and it makes bedding them a bit more of a challenge.
2) The action contour tapers sharply down to a barrel that is narrower than the action itself. This limits the barrel contour to the same diameter as the factory barrel if you wanted to customize.

If you want a "tactical" rifle with good qualities and lots of growth potential, look at the police models in the Remington or Savage lines. They are cheaper and the possibilities are almost endless in terms of japing them up.

These two Tikka proprietary design issues mean that you're basically stuck with the factory rifle; other than optics, brakes and ammo, there is not much you can change easily. That isn't neccessarily a bad thing, but I wanted to change a few things and it was basically too expensive and difficult to be practical.

I have the TIKTAC in a 308, it is simply put one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned, and to back it up my 7mm Varmint and 222 Varmint Tikka's shoot right along with it!
There smooth, and they shoot, and when you fine your sweet load for them they drive nails.
However saying this, I do have other Name brands that shoot just as well, CZ 550 varminter, Rem 700's Varminters, and even believe it or not a Ruger Varminter, and a Winchester, HB, Sako A III , and a savage 112 vs (AND OWNED 2 fps Le's that did not shoot as well but ok), all shoot comparative groups in all sorts of calibers. So I am not going to tell you what shoots better, because all the rifes i mentioned shot dam well.

Its My own personal opinion that I like to shoot the Tikka's over the above mentioned. I shoot them better on average, and feel very comfortable behind them.

I concur with all the positive comments about the T3 Tac. I have been using one off and on now for almost a year, and it shoots fantastic. The stock is just fine, and makes for a lightweight rig that you will begin to appreciate when you need to carry it farther than from your car to the bench.

I highly recommend them.

WOW Thanks for all the input everyone. You deffinately have made up my mind that I will buy one. Now comes the task of finding a good deal on one. Anybody have any Ideas where they can be purchased cheaply.

You might also want to look at the Tikka Super Varmint. Same stock as the Tactical but uses a stainless action. Muzzle isn't threaded and no sights are provided but it's a couple of hundred less and available in almost any caliber you can think of. I'd love to get one in 6.5 Swede if I had the dough kickin' around. Instead I'm trying to find a 700 SPS Tactical in .308 because the funds are tight.
