Hi Everyone,

I am just getting into target shooting an I think I have finally decided to go with the Tikka T3 Varmint in .308. I can get the stainless version locally from Cabelas for $1120 but does anyone know where I could find one with the blued barrel not stainless? Aesthetically I think the all black looks better, and was hoping it could save me a few dollars as well. Any help is appreciated!

For mainly target shooting, do you think the heavy barrel varmint is worth the extra $350 over the Tikka T3 lite?

Thanks!

I thought I saw a blued model in the EE. Del Selins is a dealer and they have a bunch of rifles listed in the precision rifle EE. Can't say for certain. But worth looking into

EDIT: just had a quick look. 7mm rem mag.

Well it seems I got impatient! I've picked up a stainless version in .308 from my local shop and a new Vortex HS-T 6-24x50 from another member on CGN. Went with a Talley Picatinny rail and I'm currently just waiting for the Vortex Precision Matched Rings I picked up from the sale at theammosource.com. I also grabbed a Caldwell XLA 6-9in Pivot Bipod on sale and one of Cabela's X-treme Armour single long gun cases (also on sale). I will have to wait until I mount the scope before I know if it will fit in the case but I think I will need to be cutting the bumps off the egg crate foam at the very least if I don't return it.

My questions have now turned towards ammo! My uncle is going to help me work up a load one weekend but I am not sure which bullets to start with. I've got a box of Hornady A-Max 168Gr bullets to load, some factory Federal 150Gr soft points, and some older reloads I believe are 150Gr as well. I'd like to compare them to some other weights/bullets without buying too many boxes! Does anyone know what weights typically work well so I can narrow it down to my specific rifle? Also, does anyone have anything against CCI 200 Primers vs Federal?

Ideally, are there any gracious members around Regina who have several different types and would be willing to sell me a small amount of each?

Thanks everyone! My next issue is solving the controversy around barrel break in procedures...

i have the same rifle in 223 and it is very nice alright. i do not hand load and a old fella at the range said to try winchester box of 40, 30 to 40 bucks.
