Tikka T3 Varmint HB SS vs CZ 527 Varmint Kevlar pro and cons

I am thinking of getting either of the above two as a bench and varmint gun.

Does any one have any experience with either of these two and can comment on.

1. Fit and finish
2. Accuracy
3. The tikka comes with 1 in 8 twist andf I believe teh CZ in 1 in 9 is there such a big difference
3. They are both close in price but how much better is the CZ stock.

I am really torn between each but I am looking for overall quality.

I have a Tikka Varmint and I love it. You won't find a smoother action out there. I have no complaints about fit/finish - it's a fine looking rifle. The only thing I wish was that the Varmint came in a blued finish - the stainless is a little too 'flashy' for my taste (even though I preferred it originally, I might gunkote it in matte black).

Accuracy is excellent - even when working up my loads, all shot under 1" at 100 yards. My pet loads (limited development) will shoot right at 0.45 - 0.5"

1 in 8 twist will allow you to shoot slightly heavier bullets. However, it's kinda a pain on the tikka, because longer bullets don't fit in the magazine and need to be single loaded.

Some people don't like 'tupperware' stocks, but I have no complaints about the Tikka one.
 
waiting on a scope for my cz, but the fit and finish is great, its smooth and i love the single set trigger so far from dryfires. the usual quality you expect from a cz or bruno

the tikka is going to be easier to find though

So CZ vs Tikka, I took a real hard look at both, heres my 2 cents.

The HS Precision stock is way solid, excellent bedding system, nicer finish than the Tikka. The Tikka does have the advantage of being able to change your cheekpiece height.

The action is smoother out of the box on the Tikka, The CZ is tight but breaks in nicely to one of the slickest around, feeding and ejection are flawless so far.

9" vs 8" I think the 9" is a better compromise as I will be shooting every thing from 37 to 75gr. So far just been shooting factory 45grHP which will shoot 3/4". If I want to shoot heavier bullets I use my 25-06AI.

scope mounting system on both works but I do like the open top reciever on the CZ better.

The set trigger takes some getting used to, the non set mode is a bit creepy, set mode is fantastic. I am told you can readjust the trigger to take the pull down to the same as the set mode but haven't messed with it yet.

Over all I am very happy with this rifle, wouldn't hesitate to reccomend it.

WSS is showing one in stock chain wide and a half doz or so on order in 223, one in 204 on order, think its spoken for.

Thats great new but can the Tikka be single feed from the action and fire ? will th CZ be the same since it is a mini mauser action it should ?
 
I opted for the CZ 527 Kevlar (.223). Mine is currently in the gunshop getting the trigger done.

The trigger is about the only problem with the CZ. The set trigger is very good. The regular trigger though is pretty bad.

I have the scope and the rings. I just need the trigger finished and then I'll be taking it for a range session.
 
I am leaning towards the CZ as well as its a little different and not soemthing that everyone has I also like the fact the stock is fiberglass/Kevlar and the finish and its a little lighter and built on a compact action desing for the .223 case where as the Tikka is a long action and even though its 1/8" twist the magazine will not let you seat the round out the far and the the stock is injection moulded.
 
My experience is with the much older Bruno Fox in 222. Essentially, the same as the CZ but in a very nice wooden stock.

I fell in love with the set dual triggers and have been using feather light triggers ever since. Non set trigger pull was nothing to write home about but it did the job.

Safety looked very old fashion but it did the job.

Feeding from the mag was great. Would not single feed very well and I didn't want to muck with the extractor to make it function single feed.

The bolt was a bit sloppy (typical Mauser) but lock up was tight (all that really matters). Accuracy was 1/2 min.

The Bruno needed factory specific rings which were pricey but worked well.

Overall, I really liked the rifle. The action was nicely sized for this case. Worked great and was accurate.

I like the CZ, although I have yet to handle the Kevlar model. I have a 527 American in 221FB that is proving to be a very accurate rifle. I recently shot 6 groups (3 shots each) on the same paper at 6 different squares, smallest .3", avg was .67" but if I overlapped them all, it would of been a 1.5" 18 shot group, this is with the light barrel American. That makes me happy, I'd imagien the Kevlar would shoot even better
 
I have the CZ Kevlar in the .223 and was very impressed with the stock. I just love the palm swell pistol grip and the stock is solid. The bolt action isn’t as smooth as the Tikka but works well for me. I did reset the trigger on mine and found it tricky for reassemble and ended up sending it in for a final touch. I have shot my rifle as a single shot without any issues for ejecting the spent shell. I found the tapered barrel a little different compared to the standard varmint barrels. I’m disappointed in the finish of the barrel and found the finish isn’t as hard as most barrels and scratches fairly easy. This is my first CZ and I’m not disappointed in this rifle at all. Wouldn’t mind getting one in a 240...

Sorry Cummins4x4 that is my fault.
Everytime I order a rifle it's discontinued within a few years. :D

First rifle I bought was a Winchester M70 Coyote. Discontinued a year and a half later.
Kimber SVT .22. discontinued 3 months after I bought mine.
I think the Remington XR-100 is now discontinued as well. I bought one two years before.
Now the CZ527 Kevlar which I received a month ago.

Double check your info. I don't see that anywhere on their website or in their 2007 catalog which is posted.
 
I have the 09 catalog, no kevlar anything which isn't the end of the world prob still get them from HS, but no fast twist really sucks. They have a new model called the M2, canoe paddle stock and short (flush) 3 rd mag for all the whiners that complained about the mag sticking down, which I happen to like.

Epoxy7, too funny, let me know what your buying next so I can get one before its discoed;)
 
Well that sucks! Why the hell wouldn't they post their latest catalog on their website? Bad choice discontinuing the kevlar and 1:9 twist.
 
Now I'm really glad that I got one when I did.

Just waiting for the trigger job to be finished. I figured I'd get the regular one down to 3 pounds and smoothed out. Not really required since the set trigger is very good, but still. I want it to be perfect. Which it's pretty close to being.

I have a scope and rings just waiting to go on it. :D

.308 :). Don't we have enough options in .308? I think it's the CZ-550 for the larger calibers. the CZ527 uses a micro mauser action for the .223 and .204. It's specifically designed for these small calibers only.
