Tikka T3x CTR Picatinny Rail Issues

Hello, I was wondering if anyone can show me the top of their tikka t3x rail, I got mine brand new with a unscrewed screw at the tip of the rail, I assum e its not normal ??

It doesnt seem to have a hole in the receiver at that point..

It's for a mirage band. There is a corresponding screw on their muzzle brake. Don't screw it down, it can damage the rail.
 
Not for aiming. It's the connection point for the mirage band on both pieces. Went through the same dilemma when I bought my ctr, what does this screw that doesn't belong do.
 
Before asking I already tried to screw it back :(

Not sure if I can just use the rail or upgrade since its a pita to remove I heard..

Only one screw is stripped and not too badly yet.. others were removed easily.. is there a lug on the rail ?

The reason to swap the rail would be to accommodate more drop than your scope can adjust for. Have you checked balistic data for whatever you're shooting and your scope specs to see how far you can shoot with your scope mounted on a 0 moa rail? I'd be willing to bet you don't need it yet.

Assuming your elevation is centered at a 100 meter zero you have about 37 moa adjustment. My CTR is 6.5 CM (you didn't mention your caliber yet) so I have the Federal Non Typical loaded in Strelok already. Hypothetically, you should be able to reach about 900 meters (984 yards) with a flat rail.
 
I shoot out to 500-600m with my Leupold VX3i 4.5-14, on the factory CTR rail with 147gr Hertenberger surplus ammo.

And out to 800m with handloaded 168gr. Never had an issue with adjustment range yet.

I dont shoot calculated groups as some do, I'm happy if 8 out of 10 of my shots ring the plates.

 
Well.. I screwed up it seems, as I check the rail through the sun I see the front of the screw rail is bent upward grrrr! Since the scope will be installed behind the screw anyway does it really matter its bent just in the front ?

If the front of the rail is bent upwards? -MOA? Or just the screw is bent?
 
I guess I screwed because I thought it was not fully seated LOL!

yeah it did scratch the receiver but not much, it just bent the rail upward in front of the first screw. I removed the screw after knowing it doesnt need to be there

I'd take a straight edge to confirm there's no bends you can't see with the visual eye.
