Hi All,

I recently purchased a Tikka T3x Strata and noticed that my barrel isn't sitting center of my stock. unfortunately noticed the evening after taking the rifle home and had no luck swapping it out for another one the next day in store.

I know that the Tikka should have a free floating barrel however from what point?

I slid a piece of paper up until i felt resistance on where the barrel is touching the stock. Images show the difference from left to right of the barrel.

For me, My test for an adequate free float barrel is to wrap that paper around and under the barrel at the end of the stock & slide uncontested back at least as far as the chamber starting point...a perfect free float is uncontested to the recoil lug.

Thats pretty typical on the Tikkas.Use some doweling and sandpaper to open the barrel channel up a touch.

I’m not sure why tikka doesn’t just make the barrel channel bigger.

I had the same issue when I bought my tikka T3.

As fingers said - Your barrel should be free floated to the recoil lug. Tikka normally makes a really good product but I guess even good products have their glitches. Not sure why rifles leave the factory like that. Your barrel is very obviously gained to one side of the barrel channel as was mine.

I ended up using sandpaper to open one side of the channel to ensure a free float to the recoil lug. Perhaps a note to Tikka Customer service would be a good idea since it seems to be an issue for several owners.

I would remove the stock/barrel and then re-install it carefully so that the recoil lug is secure in the slot in the receiver - my T3 was perfectly free floated to the recoil lug - if you do not want to mess around with the stock etc - try putting the barrelled action in another Tikka stock to confirm that your stock is out of spec

I dont really want to take it apart without getting a go ahead from tikka, is there a contact number or anything for us in BC?

Is there just no support after the purchase of a firearm?

After 8 or 9 T3/T3x', I've noticed that's pretty normal. I think all of them that I've had showed up like that, except the varmint models. It never affected accuracy in any of my guns. I've never had one that didn't shoot under an inch in the OEM stock. FWIW, the few that I've kept have had their stocks changed out and they're fully free floating now. But they don't shoot any better now than they did in their OEM stocks. I just changed them because I like B&C stocks better than the factory one.

This is exactly how all of my T3/T3x' have showed up.

A#perfect#free float is uncontested to the recoil lug.

And this is how I've made my "keeper" ones with a stock upgrade.

Tel: 1-905-436 9077 for Tikka Canada

Stoeger Canada is the importer/distributor/warranty centre for Tikka

If you do want to contact them, might as well use the toll free number 1-800-263-1945 rather than the 905 number posted by PSE

As far as taking it apart goes, there is nothing in the warranty that stops you from doing that.

You will only have to remove 2 receiver screws which is shown in the T3x Manual starting from page 12 and 13

I would like to add to this.

Use a hollow ground screw driver with the proper width and thickness for the screws. Goes a long way in preventing marring of the screw heads.
