Hey guys~I've shot Tikkas but have never owned one. Until now. :) 2 questions for the Tikka experts here on CGN;

1. adjusting the trigger~difficult? Anybody swap for aftermarket instead?
2. flush mags~do they exist for this rifle/204 R?

It's quality/performance (not aesthetics) that drew me to Tikka, but other than the CTR-type mag set-up...Tikka mags are about as handsome as a bouquet of elbows. lol Not a huge deal, but curious if anybody knows..can share links/pics etc.

YES...you read it right, a CGN member who is OK with a smaller capacity...most people seem to want to know how they can get 10+ rounds. :)
 
The trigger is easy to adjust it's just one set screw. I'd buy a new trigger spring from yodave before I purchase a new trigger. I'm not sure how light you want your trigger but it'll get it down to under a pound for $10.
 
I’ve had a few tikkas. Including a 204. If I got one again it would go in a krg bravo with steel accumags no questions asked. 5 round accur mags for my 223 bighorn rifle are sweet. I wouldn’t even bother with that plastic tikka magazine garbage that looks like it’s from a kinder egg surprise
 
Just pull the rifle out of the stock and back the bigger set screw in front of the trigger out as far as you can to lighten it up. I put mountain tactical trigger springs in my guns (as well as changed out the standard plastic bottom metal/trigger guard to their aluminum ones) and they break cleanly at just over a pound. Pretty light for hunting rifles but I really like them. Yodave is another good option.

Flush mags for your rifle do exist. They're the 4 round magazines. Al's is out of stock at the moment but I'll post a link just to show that they are real: https://alflahertys.com/tikka-magazine-t3-and-t3x-4-round-calibers-204-222-223-s5850370/

I've never fired one of the varmint models. Or any 204 Ruger for that matter. But if it turns out to be anything like the tikka's I have, I believe you're really going to be happy with your rifle. :cheers:
 
Factory trigger is pretty good as is for most guys, you can swap springs if you like and it does make it lighter but it does break clean as is. I have installed the Timney two stage trigger in my Tikka match rifle and it is a nicer trigger, but for the $200 ++ you pay for it I am not sure it is worth it for casual shooting.

I have never owned a Tikka in 204 so I will leave the magazine questions to other folks.
 
Hey guys~quick update. I had adjusted (through the trigger guard) the pull down as low as it'll go, and while it improved the trigger allot...I believe it's still breaking at over 4lbs. I don't need a 1lb trigger, but this is notably heavier than all my other rifles...so it feels pretty distracting. lol I don't own a trigger gauge for the record, but my last 204 was a Cooper (way better trigger) and I shoot an Anschutz target 22LR most. This Tikka feels like tug of war in comparison.

Big job to swap-out spring(s)? Who has?

86 BUCKS for a single stack polymer mag.....WOW!!
SOMEBODY is makin a killing on those....unreal.
That said....I’d likely be foolish enough to pay it,just because I like the carry feel of a flush fitting mag,blind mag,or floorplate,if not only for aesthetic appeal.It’s actually been a deciding factor in why I have never bought a Tikka,didn’t realize the shorter mag was an option.

^lol.. I was actually a few blocks from Flaherty's a week ago, and ALMOST swung by to grab one. I really dislike extended mags on hunting guns, and Tikka did a remarkable job making theirs about as ugly as it could possibly be. I have the disadvantage of working in plastic every day, and have a fair amount of experience with injection moulding as well. That mag MIGHT cost $6 to make, likely less...so I almost keeled over when I saw the asking price. No comment on AF btw, I believe all that cost is from Tikka/Stoeger.

Anyhow, like you...I see one in my future regardless. lol They should come with flush mags, and charge the high-cap-mag lovers the premium if they want one as a separate thing. :)
