Yeah baby
Anyone know of an aftermarket mag so that I can seat bullets further out to touch the lands?
Or any other suggestions - top loading these rifles sucks

.284 there maybe a way to seat further out in the mag. I am going to try an experiment with one, hopefully, tomorrow. I will post here if I am able to get it to work.

An aftermarket mag wouldn't help. They're made to fit the receiver, not to make longer OAL ammo work through the mag.

Here is a link to a mod. The fellow reported that after doing the mod, the bullets did not feed great. I would do this mod in a second but not go as long as he did.

That looks like a fairly straight forward modification.

My idea will have them come back even further which is why I want to test it before giving anyone advice on it. Might pop out of the mag too soon and not feed into the chamber well.

As far as I know all T3 mags are the same overall outside lenght. They put a block in them to get the desired inside lenght. So why not try a mag for a different lenght? The 223 uses a "S"mag.

I think the main problem your going to find with that idea is that the bolt will not come far enough back to pick up the round. Also, I think, that you may run into the problem I mentioned above about the round popping out of the mag too soon.

Thanks guys. I think that Tikkas only have one length of bolt so hopefully it could come back far enough. I loaded up some 80 grain bergers but the jump is pretty far to the lands to make them fit in the mag. To touch the lands oal is 2.412 and to fit the mag I went 2.267. Seems far but I'll post up some results

You know what, that is going to be a real pain in the butt to modify. Maybe you better just sell me that gun and save yourself the hassle:)

The Tikka's all come with the same bolt but the bolt stops are tailored to the chambering. With the mag in the rifle, pull your bolt back all the way to the stop. Look at how much of your magazine is still covered by the bolt. A longer magazine leaves you with the bolt stopping short of picking up the next round.

I find that I'm having problems even just getting the 6 rounds into the mag! I have my handloads seated pretty deep and its quite picky for what will fit into the chamber. I also have probs even with the rounds just getting into the chamber when I top load....

Here`s the range report - 80 grain berger vld - varget - cci primers - rem brass OAL 2.267 - 200 yards
21.4 grains went about .75 inch
23.0 grains went about 1 inch
Other loads from 21.0 - 23.3 were from 2 - 4 inch groups
I think obtunded has about the best idea but I`ll work with the ones that showed promise first
Thanks

Too lazy to do your research for you tonight but I will send you in the right direction. Go onto snipers hide and do the search there. There are a few guys making bottom metal for the tikka that should work for you. I am in the same boat but dont want to spend the money at this point. I will finish loading up my 80gr rounds and not buy them anymore. I have 77gr rounds that work just the same and will load into the mag.

I modified my tikka Varmint .223 mag. So far I have fed it a few hundred rounds of 80gr Amax loaded to 2.410 and never missed a beat.
