Tikka Varmint 24 bbl weight

I am now on my ( blue print)planning stage for my retirement rifle, it we will be a 24”308 or 6.5CM. Was looking at Bartlein bbls for this project and Defiance Rukus Action. My big question right now is which contour to get. It will be for Bench / Target Shooting and maybe PRS if my knees will still allow me. I have a Tikka Varmint 24” in 308 right now which I’m having no complaints , shoots great for a factory gun. I can’t seem to find the barrel weight of the Tikka bbl for reference, check the net and even email Tikka with no response . If you have some info and even suggestions, please share . Thanks

The 20” 308 CTR barrel I took off is about 3.0 lbs. I put a 24” Varmint 308 barrel on which was about 1 lb heavier. Call it 4 lbs.

Just to add, for a 24-26” bbl in 308, 10 or 11 twist? , mostly 155-175 bullets, max to 500 yards/ meters

my CTR barrel with Tikka muzzle brake is 1.555 kg.
you can go down to 20'' or 18'' barrel for under 500 yards. less harmonic, hence more accuracy, easier to carry for prs/hunting. you are going to lose a bit of velocity, it doesn't matter
when shooting under 600 yards.
slow twist rate is fine, 150 - 165gr bullets require less vertical adjustment, higher speed will compensate for low BC.

I already have a 20” and 24”, but want to invest to 24-26” in 308 or 6.5CM, as mentioned above its gonna be my retirement rifle, so want it to be good, although its nice to imagine that I can still do action type shooting, but in reality I doubt it, I would say 80% or more will be shooting bench,.. so would the 11 twist is more flexible when it comes to bullet choice?, I don’t want to limit myself to the heavies 178-210 gr if I go with 10 twist, have no experience with 10 twist btw, so a little apprehensive on this. It’s nice to know your experience since the way I look at it will be on 155-178 range I’m going. Thanks

You can always look up the calculated stability using Berger’s stability calculator and test out 10 vs 11 that way. I’m guessing you would see no practical difference between the two. If your into podcasts listen to the Precision Rifle Media recent episode with George from GAP. His suggestion for 308 twist rate is 10.

A 1 in 11 twist is more than adequate for the 155 to 185 grain range. A 1 in 10 twist will work also.
