Just wondering if any of you have any experience with these. I am considering getting a varmint in 308. My biggest question right now is the extra money worth it over the HB savage?

"...varmint or tactical..." Same thing, different finish.
"...extra money worth it..." Nope. The best BNIB commercial hunting rifle is a Savage.

What aftermarket goodies? Well let's see, there is a gent that sells a spring kit that will let you take your stock trigger down to ounces(which you do yourself), for aftermarket barrels well that is kind of obvious that any "gunsmith" can put on whatever you want, for scope mounts optilocks are as good as factory mounts made and if it needs to look tactical, NearMFG. and Ken Farrel make picatinny mounts for them, and lastly stocks. If you need an aftermarket stock there is a gent down south named Kelly Mcmillan (spelling) who makes a stock called an A-5 that will fit it or any other variant that his company makes to suit you. I read this "no aftermarket goodies" stuff all the time but there is stuff for it. Just important stuff I guess, no bling bling stuff ;)

i read on the mcmillan site, and nowhere it says it's compatible with the T3 stocks. It says compatible with sako 75 actions. Is the T3 action same as S75?

No, No, 1000 times NO. Not even close! S75 is a heavier action with 3 lugs whereas the T3 is a 2-lug action for starters...

Gentlemen, race on over to snipershide, or is it sniperparadise where they are discussing Tikka master sporter #### , in those posts lies your answers. Kelly made up some A-5's for a group buy and they are in the process of making stocks for T-3's. :D

Yup, he speaks the truth... Just saw the pics last night while surfing over there. Looks pretty nice on the Master Sporter!

hsld.

My .02c

What are you going to use it for first? The T3 tactical does not make a great carry gun, varmint for hunting. That said, I have the tactical for precision shooting, as many have pointed out the Varmint and Tactical are almost the same rifle, but on my precision course the first things I had to do to get my sighting correct was shorten the stock, and raise the cheek piece, try that with the varmint. So unless you want to spend money on a third party stock for precision shooting, and throw the varmint one away (money wasted), or use the gun off the shelf, then there lies your decision. I like it, its accurate, and has a good feel, it will do me well. Not sure if varmint has a thread on barrel for break.

The Tikka T3 Tactical has more options with it and to add more the the T3 Varmint. Just go to this website and check out both rifles. For one, you can visually see the difference.

www.berettausa.com

Go under 'product catalog' then "rifles"

Tikka has a new "Super Varmint" but the only difference is the Picanty rails and an extra swivwl stud over the Varmint.

The T3 Varmint is a sweet shooting rifle. Great for the price.

T3 Varmint

I have a new T-3 Vamint in .223.....Its not to heavy to carry, and it shoots like crazy...The trigger didnt need to be touched...smooth action, mag fed...and it shot real small grps..an easy rifle to shoot....No brake, no threads..

I have a T3 Tactical in .223 that I use for varmint hunting...I love it and I'd take it over my Savage any day.

But that is just personal preference.

The T3 Tac has alot going for it that no other "out of the box", easily avail stock rifle can come close to at a reasonable price. The stock is adjustable, it comes with the pic rail and it comes with a removable magazine. Those are 3 mighty big characteristics,, and this rifle easily fits what is needed to shoot the precision/sniper competitions in Canada.

The action is really slick too and it shoots as good as any Remington or Savage.

If I was to do things all over again,, I wouldn't hesitate to get a T3 Tactical.

Unless you are married to a NATO round, the 25-06 makes a great 200m tack-driver. It's as fast as you want, in front of the -06 case, and the .25 cal projectile can be heavy enough to make wind much less of a concern than with the .22 cal.
