Background:
Over the past couple of years I've noticed I've introduced more new shooters using my SKS than any other rifle I own.
I suspect the primary reason has been the relatively inexpensive surplus ammunition.
I also noticed most people gravitated to my Butler Creek aftermarket stocked SKS instead of the factory equipped wooden stock - even though the plastic stocked rifle felt like it had more recoil than the factory wooden one.
They also seemed to shoot more accurate with the Butler Creek stock.
People just like shooting rifles that fit them better.
Wondering how I could make a good thing even better for new shooters - I started looking into aftermarket wooden stocks for the SKS.
Photo below is of my new Timbersmith stock from Tapco.
The difference between this new stock and the plastic aftermarket/wooden factory stock is like night and day.
Someone did their homework with this product - fit and finish is outstanding and the gun just feels "right".
Difficult to explain - but you know it when you feel it.

Swapped out trigger group for a Russian version that has little to no creep and a crisp (for an SKS) let-off.
Replaced the 5/20 round Tapco magazine for some ancient 5 round aftermarket mag I had sitting in a box for 15 years. I think it looks a lot nicer and may replace it with the factory fixed box magazine should the antique magazine prove problematic.
Hope to try it out next week prior to taking the next group of people from work out to the range.
