Hey Gang:

Looking for some help with getting a new Timney Calvin Elite trigger installed into my Remington 700 5R. I have the new trigger in and believe I followed the instructions to the letter. What's happening is I can't get the bolt to go back in to test it out as the sear seems to be sitting a bit high as detailed in the pictures below...I can't get the bolt past the rear edge of the sear.

I also can't get the trigger to fire when switching from safe to fire....not sure if I should be able to or not...my previous trigger installs have been on 10/22 which were very simple. I have not adjusted anything on the trigger as far as pull weight goes or sear overtravel...nothing changed from when it came out of the box.

Any thoughts or advice as to what the issue might be here?

And CGN comes through again! In record time ....a fine member here sent me a PM with my obvious mistake called out.

It looks like the sear piece is above the rear trigger pin.
Remove the rear pin and push Down the sear piece so it sits below the pin and re pin.

Did this and problem solved!

Just curious............did you read the instructions?
Was it in there to prevent this?
Not trying to troll or cause a kerfuffle, but I came across some
instructions on how to do that really really lacked proper
install information.

The instructions were lacking and didn't spell things out explicitly in a true step by step fashion. Read them a couple of times and watched a few youtube videos before tackling the job....but didn't catch this detail.

Wow, Calvin Elite, cool! How light did you make it? I have the regular Timney set to 1.8lbs and I find it scary light at that. I can't imagine what 8oz trigger would feel like.

I need to get my hands on a scale to check the pull weight....its light enough that if my finger is in the trigger guard and touching the trigger and I think about the gun going off it does....trigger is outstanding!

You read the instructions and looked at a video... and discovered the sear sat too high to allow the bolt to function... and did not have the curiosity to see why the sear sat so high? Come on now... it wasn't just the instructions that were lacking.

So tell us guntechie feller...........were you born a gunsmith?

I think I was... I was 6 when I took apart my first rifle and figured out how it worked... put it back together too.

Most people can figure it out... so many are reluctant to spend the time doing it.

My Calvin was set at a 1/2 lbs pull right out of the box and it was crazy light. I adjusted it to 1 lbs . Sweet trigger

Bravo for you sir for being so mechanically inclined, one day I hope to reach such heights as well. It wasn't obvious to me straight away so I came to the forum seeking some help and got it. Once the mistake was pointed out to me it made sense right away what I had done wrong...yes I made a mistake ya know like a human being does from time to time....

I didn't actually see your commentary as I was out shooting my rifle and not flaming other peoples threads online but whatever floats your boat I guess. Have a great day!

first time i popped a rem 700 trigger off it took me a while to figure out the safety and how it all worked. you learn more by taking things apart and reassembling than googling.
