Tin/lead plumbing solder

Where’s a good place to look for it and compare prices?

I picked up a handful of bar solder for what I thought was a good deal, backsides are stamped 35/65, 90/10, 40/60, 50/50, 63/37. Cast into the face is Metal’s and Alloys Limited & The Canadian Metal Co. Ltd, 9 bars in total weighing 11lbs in total.

Usually.....and I say Usually, pewter is 95% tin & 5% lead. Bar solder is marked expressing the tin content first. Ex: 60-40 solder is 60% tin & 40% lead and so on.

not quite.

The 5% is usually made up of copper and antimony, thats why I like it better than straight tin.

Sometimes, the older pewter, pre 1970-ish may contain lead. Usually you can tell by the tarnish on the pewter.

Non lead pewter stays shiny.

.......and I stand corrected! But I did say "Usually" twice!!!LOL!!!

Makes sense, I have some old Pewter that I inherited that is very grey and tarnished looking vs. the new batch of pewter frames I just melted down that were shiny silver. I looked up the maker and they were lead free according to their website.
