Hi I'm thinking on heading out to go hunt some boar around the Kamloops area soon and I was wondering if anyone knows any tips and tricks to track these guys down or where to find them?
Any help would be appreciated :)

I hope you have better luck out there than us here is SE MB! Look up Looky, perhaps he can help out with some tips. Might be a little hard to understand his writing though:p. The tip I got from a wise old man, was to buy an 8 wheel wide track Argo for 25k and go as far back in the swamps that the machine will go, apparently they are away out there!

Watch out for Pot Bellied Pigs. :) Neighbor showed me some pics of a "Wild Boar" , he found dead recently. Vicious looking beast with an impressive set of tusks, but I was doubtful since they've been cleaned out around here and it didn't fit the profile. Decided it was a Pot Belly somebody had dumped in the country and the buggar managed to survive for a while.

Grizz

Haha thanks but I don't have 25k right now so that plan is a little bit ambitious :p

I have been following BC hunting sites since they became available, shoot, I even first met Gatehouse online via an American site before there was a B.C. site.

But in that time, what's it been now, 12-15 years now, I have never once heard of nor seen a photo of an actual escaped wild boar or feral pig shot by a hunter in B.C.

ya, if someone would point others in the right direction.. id love to go harvest some pigs. But at the age of 40... Ive never ever seen a pig in bc other than one on a farm

I've also never once heard of a wild pig being successfully taken in BC, was a little taken aback by the announcement, as I didn't even consider them game animals. Would have expected them to be treated as nuisance animals, no seasons anyhow. There must be a few somewhere, but certainly not a population you'd plan a hunt on.

Hhm, I thought there was a post last fall of a BC resident here on CGN that took two of them with his .17 centrefire rifle & posted a few pics??

maybe.....maybe not.....

I think it's an excellent choice by the Provincial Gov't. Instead of letting hell break loose, then chasing it, they're learned from others' mistakes (Texas, et al), and are saying 'Let's nip this in the bud".
Fortunately for us, if you want to look at it this way, we have a lot of predators here that like squeal meat. I'm sure they have contributed to keeping the feral pig population in check.
