I just got this Burris signiture rings and trumount universal bases for my Savege 10FP. However, it seems the turn-in ring just would not fit in the dovetail base. It wouldnot turn after I enforced great forces:eek: . Now I have one almost broken ring and the base:mad: . Any insight on this please.

Thanks a lot.

BTW, this is my first rifle and first rings, bases.:D

I have installed hundreds of these style of rings and have come up with a couple of pointers that may help. The most common manufacturer of these front dovetail (turn-in) rear windage adj. ring are Leupold. Burris also makes this ring ,base combo , Milliet and now even Weaver. I have found the easiest way to turn the front ring in is to use the Leupold "ring wrench" part #48762...$14,00. This is a plastic wrench (won't mark rings" that will turn in 1" or 30mm rings). I have found the Leupold rings will turn in fairly easily but Burris rings are a tighter fit. On Burris I will put a drop of lubrication and hold the gun (obviously the bases have been mounted already) tight in a gun vise and somtimes have someone else hold the gun tight. From time to time the Burris rings will not turn in using this process and I will file a little off the dovetail to make it fit easier. Do not use your scope to turn in the ring as it will cause damage. You can also use a solid bar (lapping bar or similar) to turn in the ring by attaching the to ring half and tightening it down. I usually align the front and rear ring by using the lapping bar to check for even wear and adjust as required. This is definitly somethinf that will be easier the more often you do it. We mount our scopes in front of customers and try to educate them while we mount to prevent problems down the road. Phil.

Excellent instructions. Thanks a lot. For the orientation of the base, should the round side facing the direction of barrel for both of the base. Or just the round tip of the front base facing the barrel direction and the round side of rear base facing the end of butt stock?

Anyway, sound recommendation you got there. Thanks again.
