The Norinco NS522 that I recently purchased is arriving this week. Since it's been in storage for well over a decade, I'm expecting some storage grease. Hopefully it's not as bad as the Mosin Nagant or some SKS(es).

I would appreciate any helpful tips/advice to properly clean this rifle when it arrives. I'm anxious to scope it and bring it to the range for a competition on Saturday.

Thanks for your time and trouble.

If yours is as oiled as mine was you'll need to take it completely apart and get a box of Qtips ready...

I may have over done it but here's what I did:

Disassemble
Good wipe down
Non-chlorine brake cleaner
Hoppe's #9
G-96

I also did a basic barrel brake in (shoot/clean for the 10 first shots)

You will like it, and don't forget to twist the bolt knob manually in the cocked position to get it in the rifle.

Thanks raqh for taking the time and trouble to help me out.
I thought that with the amount of NS522 sold and how helpful the members of this board are reputed to be I would have got at least a dozen posts with tips by now.

Mannn, I can't wait to move from my apartment to our new house, finally will I be able to get compressed air!
