was told that with no tightgroup and 231 in stock at higginson that hp38 would be a good replacement for both. Now with no hp38 in stock is there any other powder that would be a replacement to the hp38. It is for a 9mm, 40 and 45 variety of loads.

If you could get it, Winchester Super Target works for me in all those calibers.

HP-38 and 231 are the exact same thing in differently labeled containers. Hodgdon published data for both powders is the same.

I have used HS-6 in 9mm and .45 with acceptable results.

Universal Clays is supposed to be pretty good for the applications you have in mind. Bullseye and Unique are a couple of old standbys that would also work.

Agreed 231 / Varget / Titegroup / H335 all non existent.

It may not be much solace for those outside of the Lower Mainland (because of shipping costs) but Dave Friesen at BC Redneck had both W231 and Varget in stock when I was there yesterday.

He's having a hell of a time getting stuff, too; his last order was only about 50% filled. I wanted some H110/W296 and .44 mag. brass. Nada- "back-ordered."

Best to call him on his cell (604) 316-1910 as his e-mail is backed up. (When I was there a message came up on his computer to alert him to "71 e-mails and 6 faxes"!)

of a potential 150 lb powder order for a group purchase, I was able to only complete about 70lbs over two different orders 3 weeks apart. It hopefully will improve sonner than later. I think it will come down to sharing a little between friends till the stocks improve.
