I was going to order some reloads from Wolf and was suprised to see that tmj was cheaper the fmj. I would think that tmj would be bettter, especailly indoors since the lead is totaly enclosed. I would think the tmj could also be more accurate.

Is there a reason anyone would choose fmj over tmj?

Plated vs actual jacket. Cheaper to produce if plating rather than forming jackets and seating cores. Be aware of plated bullets however. Some do not have much plating and do not perform well, expecially in revolvers or where a crimp is required. Unless double struck or post swaged, they may also be inconsistent in shape and either under/over size

Most of the plated bullets you get are very good, and most will be better than a poorly made jacketed bullet. Some guns will shoot plated as well as jacketed, some don't like them.

Simply because one is plated and another jacketed is not necessarily an indication of quality. It is because plated is cheaper to manufacture.

There used to be a manufacturer of plated bullets in Toronto that gave all plated bullets a bad name. His business was bought out by Aim Projectiles (A CGN sponsor) and apparently their bullets are very good in part because they are double struck. Double struck means they are put through a swagging die again after plating to make sure the bullets are perfectly uniform.

Another type of TMJ - Montana Gold manufactures what they call a CMJ bullet, that was jacketed and had a thin piece of copper put over the lead on the bottom of the bullet before they swagged the jacket over the lead. They were very expensive bullets.
