to crimp or not that is the question

So i have a pump action 308 and bought a new set of dies for them and was reading a bit about the reloading of them. it says that i should crimp the bullets in to place. i was wondering how to do this? i just found out about a crimping die and was wondering if there is any other way? once i think i have all i need there is always something else to buy, am i wrong??

Most reloading dies have a crimper built into them,its just a matter of adjusting them
by moving the locking ring up or down the die body till you achieve the result you want.
Bullets with a canalure are recomended.
Crimping is optional on nearly any box fed magazine rifle.
The instructions that came with the dies should be pretty straight forward,
if you want to do it as a seperate step lots of people like the Lee crimp die.
I don't bother crimping anything but handgun ammo.

I like a. Lee crimper for hunting ammo

Definitely crimp. Trial and error and you'll get the job done in due course. Just make sure you've got a bullet puller handy.

If the dies provide proper neck tension, there is absolutely no need to crimp, with a 308win used in a box magazine.

Go on any of the reloading manufacturers' web sites. They will explain the how, the why, and the when.

I put a crimp on my .300 WinMag because of the short throat of the case. I always look for a bullet with a canalure.
