After reading the theads about all the CGN members wanting to help with the gopher problem in our area I figured I would post a thead giving a contact in the 'gopher area'. Anyone wanting to come here for a shoot can send me a
PM and I will set you up with lots of gophers to shoot. :welcome::sniper:

was in the town of alliston yesterday. and there is a field on the outskits of town that i counted 8-9 groundhogs running around on the surface. i wished i had a .22 rifle to pick them off. but its to close to town.,

Most farmers do have a PAL and a gun....some lots of guns ..............some just have the guns, but they have better things to do at this time of year like getting ready to start field work ,and many are calving too.

problem is. only fields that really get gophers in area's that are shootable unless caught with their proverbial pants down are grass fields for cattle.

never really seen gohpers in potatoe, or grain fields around my area. if i have they have holes right in the ditch next to the road and im not about to shoot towards the road or have a rifle and walking along the road side.

I've only ever shot gophers (Richardson ground squirrels) in pasture. You see some strange creatures out in the field sometimes while swathing, but seldom a gopher. I'm pretty sure you can shoot or hunt on the mile roads in Manitoba, so long as they are unimproved. I guess they like short grass. How much crop damage do they do and how is this occuring? I know I've seen estimate of up to 50%. Is it mostly during a certain early stage of growth of the grain crops? They will definately enter a grain bin if they have access, like you are using an old wooden building for storage.

GP

Pasture, hay land and (soon) crop land. Know of a 1/4 section last year that crop was basically cleaned out between gophers & drought (gophers mostly)

They do serious damage $$$

Anyhow the sun is shining, and the little guys are JUST staring to show up.

Now's the time

Thanks to Leonard and his bro for their hospitality and time to guide us around their property - those pesky little varmints are now gopher garnage!! Also, I know that the time you spent with my nephews was awesome - they really enjoyed your time. Cheers Claude

Anyone from the Winnipeg area interested in teaming up for a trip to Mankota, drop me a pm. I'd say we need 3-4 days to get in a full 2 days of shooting. I'd like to do this in the next 3-4 weeks. We are tentatively planning to leave Fri May 23rd and return on Monday May 26th. Drop me a PM if you are interested in joining us.
