To recoil master or not to recoil master

I have recently switched out the recoil master in my sti edge for a solid guide rod. I have never liked multiple recoil spring setups just on the basis that I like having less #### to go wrong.

I am looking for opinions on what is the softest shooting setup for an edge in .40 running 180gr at major velocities.

How many of you run a recoil master, how many prefer solid rod, and if so what # spring do you use?

Thanks for the input!

Simple isn't always better. Try the DPM Recoil Reduction System (triple spring) (ww w.dpmsystems.com)

Talk to Kelly at DVC Ventures (one of the top Standard Division shooters in BC). He uses one and highly recommends the product. He can probably set you up.

Not.

I prefer a solid - tungsten - guide rod. I didn't notice a difference in recoil (recoil master vs. tungsten guide rod) and fewer things to break.

With 180 gr. .40 cal. projectiles (174 PF), I use a 14. lb recoil spring in my Trojan and a 15 or 16 lb spring in my USPSA (because of the lighter slide).

Wow pretty heavy springs. I use a 11lb as do most IPSC shooters in these parts. Mind you that's with a lightened slide in my previous Edge and now in the stock Apeiro.

14 lbs is the stock Trojan. I could probably go a bit lighter with that one, but I'd probably only go down to 12 lbs as I'm running a 19lb mainspring.

I tried to go lighter on the 1911 USPSA, but destroyed an EGW guide rod (the flange) in the process.
