Today was a good day... REMIX!!!

PP:

That is a replacement stock on that M28 and the whole gun looks to be a refurb (M28 refurbed to another M28). Original stocks have an SYT stamp in one of the finger grooves.

That SVT almost looks too clean, as if a Finn receiver had some refurb parts added. I'm sure it's legit, but the least worn Finn I've seen in a looooong time.

That SVT looks just fine to me.

Globe brought these in and sold only a few, then converted the rest to 555s.

My SVT was purchased from Globe, very last unconverted rifle they had, and is that clean.

That's exactly what I thought, Claven: that M-28 stock is a refurbed one. Original ones were cut from damaged or surplus one-piece M-91 stocks then acceptance-stamped.
I'll check with the serial number: late ones were fitted with whatever they had at hand because the better ones were reserved for the new M-28/30 and subsequent M-28 upgrades. The repairs on that stock seem to point towards that.
And yes: that SVT is really in great shape! But many of the ones that were decommissioned and especially the ones that landed here in 1963 were beautiful samples. The best were cut-up and butchered by Globe firearms and sold as hunting semi-auto rifles...

Still, I had to get these two before they went elsewhere... :)
PP.

Aaahhh, it was well worth the wait. That's one nice lookin' SVT, with the bayo nonetheless. And that M28 is nothing to sneeze at either, shes rather hard to come across. Thanks for the pics, its always nice to see old warhorses pose for the camera every now and then. Gotta go, the keyboard is getting full 'o drool. :DThk

Well if I had to choose between a Finned SVT or a Russian refurb, no question I'd go for a Finn. Just not easy to find one. I've only seen three for sale in recent years, not counting Globeco ones.

And if I had known Papy was going to sell his....

I just can't keep them all...! :) And dealing with PP was a real great pleasure. He came at home and we talked about Mosin-Nagant during almost three hours!! A very nice day...
